Are Brinks half dollar rolls worth searching?

Today I got about $90 or $100 in Brinks half dollar rolls from a bank. I searched them and found nothing, which isn't unusual these days. It has been a LOT harder to find silver halves (including 40%ers) recently than it was 2-3 years ago. My question for everyone- What do you think of Brinks rolls? If a teller told you they had $100 in Brinks rolls, would you want them or would you turn them down? And does anyone have any scientific numbers for rolls they've searched which are Brinks rolls? I've kept detailed records of lots of stuff, but I never did record my success or lack thereof with Brinks rolls. So what do you guys think?

my experience is no they are not worth searching. I believe Brinks pulls out all the silver.

Haven't had Brinksmanship rolls in a while, but it's a lot harder now than it used to be searching. I usually have better success in January than other months.

My bank told me their supplier pulled out silver from halves, but that people have nonetheless found silver in them. I found some early on, but then didn't find anything for a long time so I stopped searching.

You didn't search enough, you need to search at least $1000 a week before you start finding anything. Eventually you'll hit small jackpots from time to time. My 2nd to last $500 box was my jackpot, 10 oz. in 40%, I thought I was dreaming. The last had one single walker half in it. Still, to me, equally good boxes. Spring 2013 I gave up roll searching, to much driving around.

I found a walker in my first box of halves. I'll trade it to you for those 10 ounces of 40% if you want

That does not seem like a very even trade.
Often someone will get on a thread for roll searching and say it's such a waste of time, cheaper to buy the silver instead. The thrill of the chase was just as good for me, but I could go a month without finding anything, be about ready to quit, find an oz. or two, and be right back at it.

+1

IMO- $1000 a week is a good minimum. $2000, $3000... a week is always going to be better. Patience is the key and don't miss a week. Try to stop at the bank(s) on your way back and forth to work. Gas adds to your cost basis and special trips add to your time invested. One other thing to factor in is the accuracy of the counts when you dump. The coin counters around me are notorious for low accuracy on halves. I have seen as low as 97%, never seen 100%. Dimes I go ahead and use the coin counters. If you can find a bank/cu that will take your halves re-rolled, do that, just to eliminate shrink.I make my own rolls to keep the cost down. I can search, re-roll and box $500 in halves in 30 minutes. That includes making the rolls as I go.

We got a bit off topic. I'm not talking about half dollar rolls in general, but specifically with half dollars in Brinks wrappers. Has anyone here had any luck at all with Brinks rolls lately?

I have not sorted in 3 months. The yields are low, but it was worth it. I have two nice options for returns. First the bank that buys them will give me return bags. I hate to do this, but have had to in a pinch when I was behind. Second, I unwrap them carefully and when I am done, I put them back in the original wrapper. Then I dump at several locations. 1. Pay my morgage, 2. pay off the monthly CC bill. 3. spread them out around 12 main branches and then another 12 other branches depending on where my work travels take me.

The accumulation of silver is slow but over time it will add up.

Sorry Steve,

I failed to mention that all of my roll searching is Brink, dimes and halves. Last year (2013) I pulled 98 troy ounces of silver from $130,500 in halves and dimes. 1 ounce per $1331 searched. I do all my dumping at Dunbar serviced banks. I have not tried Dunbar or Guardia for silver searching.

Every area is different. You need to test all the armored car companies in you area to see if they pull the silver from the flow of coins they rotate thru. 20-30 boxes will let you see if they are picking it clean or not. Sheeple are turning it in everywhere! The only question is whether or not it is being searched before it leaves that particular processor.

Try dimes also. If you find it there, you should find it in the halves as well. Halves is where the bulk will come from. But, they will be spotty. Dimes will net smaller gains but, they will be more consistent.

I hope this helps.
