Anyone know anything about this coin. Date is 1696. Found it in the coin collection I acquired. Measures 40mm and weighs 28.4g. Thanks.

Sweet find. It is not a shilling but a crown (five shillings) as Verbane shows. Also it is technically an "English Crown" because the Kingdom of Great Britain was not created until 1707 when Scotland was brought into full union with England. The NGC link refers to it as a Great Britain coin for simplicity sake I suppose.

Looks like it's real. Great piece to have in your hand and wonder whose hands held it during the past few centuries. Be advised, though, there are counterfeits on the market and you may be well advised to have it certified by a reputable third-party grading service.
