Are Cash for Gold store fronts a good source for purchasing?

I've had mixed experiences with Cash for Gold storefronts. Some are willing to sell the items they receive for very good prices, while others will politely tell me to f**k off when I ask. What has your experience been?

Basically.

They either don't want to sell or when they do they want ridiculous prices. I stopped in one seedy place once and saw a 40% Kennedy half on sale for $17 (silver was at $35). The owner looked like he was with the Russian mob so I decided not to haggle. ;)

I've had similar results when asking pawn shops that advertise as PM buyers. Either they say no, or the coins they have for sale are way overpriced. I did find one guy who holds back any slabbed ASEs he gets, and sells them to me for $7 over spot.

Never tried buying, but just for fun I've walked into these places and asked what they pay for 1 oz Eagle or Maple. The answer is always 10-30% lower than spot price... rip-off.

Better to go to your LCS (no paper trail) or deal with an online bullion site.
