From the Feb edition of The Journal of Antiques & Collectibles. I never realized there was a market for the stuff.

All considered, that price is not very good.

Silverplate is worth at least the price of its base metal - usually brass, but sometimes copper or pewter. Metal yards near me currently buy scrap brass for about $1.50/lb.

Usually operations like this will make a small profit on the brass, and make most of their money on the base copper and pewter pieces. Sometimes solid silver pieces find their way in the junk pile, and then there are collectible and crafting pieces for greater profit.

The actual silver portion of most silver plated items is not cost effective to recover.

Good info. I wondered if the silver was worth recapturing.
