My fiancee and I bought gold last night!

We're still eight months away from our wedding date (Oct. 15), but we went ahead and got our rings last night. We hadn't planned on doing it initially, but I suggested that we go ahead and lock in the price while gold is under $1,400. We got 10K yellow gold bands.

Speaking of which, I didn't realize that white gold bands were plated with rhodium to make them white! Rhodium isn't exactly a major metal to hoard, so that hadn't been on my radar.

My wife and I bought white gold rings, and after six years the rhodium plating is about half gone on my ring. I'm half-tempted to go to the jeweler and have them take the remaining plating off. I'm starting to like the yellow gold better anyways.

Congratulations on your purchase, probably a wise move, gold is going up soon. BTW... why in their right minds would anyone want to hoard rhodium? It's nothing more than one of Doc's concoctions; a composite of lidocaine and sodium, injected into sites where he intends to enact scenes for inclusion in Saw VI. Boy, talk about rubbing salt into old wounds... Image

Congrats! BTW, the rhodium is supposed to be fairly easy to replate.

Rhodium is easy to replate, and it's also usually pretty inexpensive to have done. I think we used to charge under $50 to have it done.

Agreed, and thanks for the kind words, Country. I've been blessed beyond belief during the almost three years that my beloved and I have dated.

Congratulations!! Spent months looking for my wedding band. Figured I would be wearing it for a long time so I should get something I liked. Finally bought mine at a flea market for $85. Hasn't been off my finger in over 25 years and I still love it.

Congrats!

I started with a titanium band (my choice), then lost a good amount of weight. Since titanium isn't easily re-sized, the wife upgraded me to gold.

I bought some gold for my Valentine yesterday. I taped the $10 Eagle to the back of the Valentine's Day card I gave her. she's an artist so I told her to use it however she wants...melt it or whatever. It will still be gold no matter what she does it. Have you tried melting a Federal (not) Reserve (definitely not) Note lately?

Maybe because rhodium powder regularly sells for over $2k an ounce....
