Tungsten Outperforms Gold, Returns 70% In Last Year

Saw this over on the zerohedge.com blog and had a good laugh.

Now all those chinese made tungsten filled gold bars the central banks are holding are skyrocketing in value. Soon the tungsten will be replaced with gold. :lol:

Read some of the comments, they are golden "tungsten".

Investing in exotics is an interesting hobby.

Tungsten would be far from my top pick, though. It's hard to work with and would certainly be harder to sell or trade than other metals.

Besides its use in carbide and alloys, the first two things that come to mind when I think of tunsgten are:

1) Incandescent light bulb filaments.

2) Turntable needles.

I don't see much future growth potential in these two applications. :P

Then again, it's used in bullets and shells - and there will unfortunately be demand for those in the future.
