I live in a tri-city area with a population of 300,000+ and we have one coin shop in each city so there is competition. Went into my LCS to buy some coin holders today and out of curiosity I asked prices on ASE's and average circulated Peace dollars--
--ASE's $20 and Peace $30....plus tax

...of course my county here in California is very caring of its people and chose to only saddle us with a 9% sales tax :shifty:

The sales tax makes an already bad deal so much worse. Just think about when silver was up over $40. That shop might have been selling the ASEs at $50 a piece and collecting 9% on top of that to send up to Sacramento.

You can buy online (i.e. Apmex) and not pay any tax... correct?

You need to move out of that commie/socialist state. I moved out of there in 2009... haven't looked back since.

You bet, I only buy online and almost always from either APMEX, Provident or BayPreciousMetals. I only visit my LCS to pick up coin flips & tubes.

And yes I will be permanently leaving this prison/welfare state in two years and heading north to either Oregon or Idaho :thumbup:

Currently have my eyes on a beautiful small town tucked away in northeast Oregon called La Grande---loved all the physical beauty I saw there, examples:

I have driven past La Grande many times, stopped for a sandwich once or twice. It seems like a nice town.

You may want to consider the effects of cannabis legalization, when deciding between Oregon or Idaho. Oregon may be at the beginning of a cultural shift due to its recent legalization.

Idaho and Utah will probably be the last two states to legalize, if they ever do that.

Thanks for the info IC. My primary concerns are leaving behind the drive by shootings, armed robberies, Mexican Drug Cartel and their operatives, home invasion robberies, gang controlled prostitution, murders and city-wide graffiti. A small, isolated town such as La Grande should remedy most of it and temper the rest.

Wow, who wouldn't want to live with all of that?! Must be some o' that Progressive Nirvana the Dems are facilitating! I say G.O.O.D. while the gettin' is good. Anything would beat where you are now, with what you're dealing with...

I swung by my local coin shop today just to see what the junk silver bin held. I ended up NOT buying anything because he wouldn't move off of 13.5x face, which to me is nutty with melt being right at 10x. I understand a small premium, but that is too much. I've been buying there for about 6 years....and today might have been my last trip there. FWIW - ASE's were $17 raw, and $18 in a holder.
