Best Way to Liquidate a lot with minimal effort?

I've been away from the "hobby" for over a year. For any that remember me, hi :)

I never lost the love, I just have a growing daughter that takes up 99.99% (fine) of my free time. And I'm glad for it :)

Anyway, I was thinking that since I'm no longer taking "Scrooge McDuck" style baths in my hoard it would be good to liquidate a good chunk of it.

Fortunately it looks like every metal has done pretty well :)

Anyway, I've never really sold anything other than very rarely a few of my certified coins. I was always buying :)

I have a good bit of bullion and was wondering what the best way to get a reasonable price (near spot) without having to ship out 1,000 packages to different people.

Anyway, any help on how best to liquidate would be welcome!

It's good to see you back, Barry. I think your best bet would be to toss up an auction here and say that you will only break up the lots into ten, twenty, or fifty packages, whatever you think is reasonable for you. You could make it a Dutch style, where people buy what they want until you're all out. Some members here pay pretty darn close to spot for whatever it is you're trying to sell.

Nice timing too!

It depends:

(1) How much do you wish to liquidate?

If you are liquidating $1000 bags of 90%, Monster Boxes of ASEs, or tubes of AGEs, you should gravitate to the biggies: Tulving, Bullion Direct, and Apmex, and others. If you've only got a 100 TOZ or less to sell, you can look to sell here on RealCent. Selling EBAY will cost you fees, but it could be the best option for you depending on what you have for sale.

(2) What will you liquidate?

If you've got AGEs, ASEs, tubes of maples, in quantity, you can sell them anywhere. It's very liquid stuff. As you get further away from these, you have do your research to find the best market.

(3) Who did you buy it from?

If you bought your PMs from one of biggies, you can easily sell it back to them. If you bought from your local coin dealer, maybe you might not want to sell it back to them as their margins can be high. If you picked it up in coin shows, you're sort of on your own to find a buyer.

(4) When do you need the CASH?

If you gotta have the CASH right away, you need to sell it a discount to move it quickly. The bigger the discount, the more the buyers will show up. However, if you can wait a bit, then sell it for a reasonable price, but at a price that buyers usually pay. I would suggest selling your PMs somewhere between an APMEX BUY price and an APMEX SELL price. If I were selling, I would not expect to get the APMEX SELL price for my PMs. Do some research and see at what price you need to place on your PMs.

Hope that helps a little. :)

Thanks "country", that was a good reply.

I have mostly US coinage based silver. A lot of 90%, 40%, and 35%. The rest of my silver is minimal in comparison.

I don't need the money quickly, but I don't want to take up a lot of time from my daughter either. That's the main thing.

My thought was to lock in a reasonable price and be done. Where is the APMEX buy price. I didn't find that in my 5 minutes of looking :)

Thanks...

How much face value in each of junk SILVER categories do you wish to sell?

The hardest to sell will be the War Nicks which will sell at a significant discount from spot.

Look at the bid and ask ranges for junk SILVER at the Nucleo Exchange on Bullion Direct. That will be give you some idea of what buyers are willing to pay and what sellers are asking for their SILVER. I would note that Bullion Direct market maker has pulled his bids due to SILVER's volatility today. However, check back later when he replaces his BUYs and SELLs.

Like he said... What kind of FV quantity are you talking about, especially the 90%? 100s, 1000s, more?

Wow, quite a spread on the 40%! I definitely hope for a higher "to spot" ratio there :) I didn't see war nickels on there.

90% looked a lot more reasonable. I would take half way between the buy/sell on that in case someone wants to make an offer on a good amount. :) Not trying to do buy/sell here, but I figured I'd throw that in. :)

I'm not sure what the size of my hoard actually is. It always seemed like I didn't have enough when I was collecting. But the pile looks pretty large now :)

I've been liquidating some of my 40% with TMAT and have been happy with my dealings; TMAT seems to have good prices and you are dealing with a forum member.

Hey Barry,

Check this out viewtopic.php?f=30&t=3681

Tony Mat is a great guy to deal with. He's offering 9.10X face on .40 halves now.

He is very reliable.

Wouldn't it be better to hold onto it for a few more years until it goes up further then cash it in for your daughter? :)

That's a fair price for 40%. I called but no one was in. I PM'd him my #.

The assumption is "it will go up". But it may not. It could even go down.

And if I sold off a nice chunk and paid off one of my properties then I get "free income" in the form of not having to write a mortgage check every month :)

Right now, I can triple my original investment (bought between 3x and 10x on the 90% and 1x and 4x on the 40%) so if I liquidate half of it, I'm money ahead and still have a good bit left.

If you have enough to clear a mortgage, then this is a very good call. :)
