Competition for sorting halves

I am finding at many of my pick up banks that the tellers are telling me more people are asking for halves.

So, I pick up my orders but there are not as many loose halves as there use to be.

Do you think as the price of silver continues to climb that more and more people are going to be entering the sorting mix? Do you expect your silver percentages to decline as the price continues to increase?

Will it get to the point where you wont sort as many halves?

It doesnt seem that as many people know about the war nickels so you almost always find one in a box; I had one box I found 3

Sorry for my sarcasm, but the point seems self-evident. Yes, your search results are going to drop concurrent with the price rise in silver... the more dramatic the increase in price, the more evident will be a growing scarcity in reported finds by roll hunters. I have no doubt that your finds will decrease by fifty percent in the coming months, and perhaps by as much as 90 percent, but not for the reasons you're thinking. Consider... how many Americans are age 46 or younger? That entire sector of the population grew to adulthood not using silver-bearing coins, so they are not attuned to searching their change for silver... unless they were instructed by older family members. But there is a huge segment of the population that is ignorant of the value of silver. That will change as silver draws more publicity as it continues to skyrocket. Pretty soon every teller will be searching customer wrapped rolls as they come in, courtesy of the braggart in the break room boasting of how he just found another $100 worth of silver that "the stupid customer just brought in, hahaha." But your drop in search numbers won't come primarily from competition from increased numbers of roll hunters, but by the gradual awareness the public develops as silver draws more attention. Instead of Bozo Joe looking at an old roll of silver and thinking "shucks, they shure do look funny... hell, I can buy a six-pack with ten dollahs," they will begin to wonder "hey, I heard about how silver is going crazy, maybe I should go to the coin shop and see if these suckers are worth something." Everyone who reads an article or two will learn how to identify silver-bearing coins, to differentiate 40% silver from 90%, their value, and rather than appreciating them from a sense of novelty... will soon be hoarding them themselves as the light clicks on that they are real money, and worth substantially more than face value. I predict roll-hunting won't be worth the efforts by the end of this year... when I expect silver to be at $90, if not greater. Good news, bad news. Your stash will increase dramatically in value... but too soon you won't be finding free silver any more... or the minute amounts you find won't be worth the time, effort and expense that you expended to secure them. Will you change what you are sorting? ie go from halves to strictly nickels?

I would probably stop sorting at that point. Or focus on copper.
