Swap 80%

Hello ,
Long time lurker first time posting.
Based on a nearby dealers buy/sell spread I can sell $20.25 of 80% and buy 10 silver maples or a 1/4 oz gold maple. $76.50 face will buy a 1 oz gold maple. I'm considering keeping the .50 and $1 coins and swapping some dimes and quarters. Does this sound like a fair deal?

Made my first gold purchase and feel good about it :D . The dealer offered the same proportion to spot for 50% as 80% . I rushed over before he changed his mind and sold $54 face of 1968 50% for $634.50 (11.75 face) put in another $125 and got a 1/2 oz gold maple. I kept the 80% for now but may sell soon and buy back .999 silver at $27-28 or buy some more yellow.

Wise move to unload the 50%. Especially in the US, those 50% dimes and quarters are treated as third class material as there's not a clear understanding of them by most collectors. I say, check all of the 68s with a magnet if there's any question of AG or NI. DUH! Anyway, I agree with the possible sale of the remaining 80% dimes and quarters. Many of those from the 1940s and 1950s haven't worn gracefully in circulation and most collector potential has been wiped out (or, at least, rubbed out).

The half bucks and the dollars are worth hanging on to. Smart move, SF.

Thanks for the vote of confidence K.C.C., your right about the 50% I can see him sitting on those for a while of selling at a loss. I needed got off my @ss today and sort some coins. I pulled any lightly circulated and a few AU-BU coins mostly 1966 likely taken from mint sets. I have $200 face to sell Monday. Fridays buy price was 19.21x and with that I can buy (2) 1oz Au maple, (1) 1/2 Au maple and $90 cash back. Or have $3842 of dry powder to pick up some .999 at $32 for a zero net loss in ASW.

I think I may change my name to goldfish until May-July. Silver is making me nervous at these prices
