Cleaning 40%

I got a hold of some dirty 40%.
Nothing wrong with the coins, no dents, gouges, scratches, etc., just ugly.
Kinda like me, but I digress...
Anyone have an easy way to get all the gunk off?
I've never cleaned bullion or 90%, tried pennies once and it didn't go so well.
Someone mentioned "tumbling" before but I can't find the thread.

Thanks, I'll take a look.
I wanted to stay away form chemicals or soap and scrubbing.
The pennies I cleaned a few years back came out butt ugly.

Before putting into a tumbler, however, you might just try taking a few of them and putting them into a plastic cup with soapy water. If you let the water just sit for 12-24 hours, quite a bit might come off just while sitting there in the soapy water. I haven't done it with silver halves, but have quite a bit with pennies through quarters. It doesn't always work, but works well enough so that I keep doing it (especially with gunky, sticky coins).

I've been resorting to not throwing dirty copper pennies back into the wild, I put them in vinegar for a few days, seems to really do the trick. Seems to destroy the protective nature of all the grime if you can call it that.

I've had good luck with the soapy water soak. If the gunk is really bad I put them in a bowl and use boiling water with the soap. It seems to help with the stubborn cases.
