When you buy a silver coin ,and a MUCH nicer one shows up!

Trying to see what's going to happen, here..

I bought a silver coin on eBay, and got it at a good price. The package arrives today. In it is a TOTALLY DIFFERENT SILVER COIN, which appears to be of much higher value! I have advised the seller, because I'm not a dirtbag, but I'm curious to see what they are going to do about it. My guesses are:

1. tell me not to worry about it, and they will send me the true coin that I ordered (aka 2 for 1)
2. ask me to return the one they sent me, and they will send me the one that I ordered

I'm hoping it ends up being number 1, but we'll see how that goes. I will advise once I have further details!

So they have replied and basically told me that if I return the coin they sent me, they'll just credit me back. It doesn't look like I'll end up getting the coin that I truly won bc they have no clue where it went- so I'm asking them if I can just keep the one that they sent me in error. Awaiting response.

They told me the buyer of the other coin replied to them and they want the coin. They told me that when I return the erroneous coin to them, they'll "credit me in full" for the one I bought...........

I went nuclear. Told them that this was not MY error, and I wasn't going to sit back and watch them "just credit my acct" when this whole thing is stemming from a coin that I bought and paid for already! I told them when the coin that I won shows up, I'll send back the other one. I love how these businesses look to fix things "fast", not necessarily "right".

Would be interesting to see pics or details of the two coins.

I bought a half dozen average circulated gold sovereigns once and I got an obscure Danish coin instead of one of the sovereigns. Its technically more rare, and has 0.02 ozt more gold, so I didn't complain. But I suspect this was one of those 'accidents' like when you spend Canadian money in the U.S. to get rid of it.

My issue just keeps getting better: the seller advises that if I return the erroneous coin, they will:

1. discount my orig order
2. send me something "extra" once they get my coin back from the other person they sent it to

I've reluctantly agreed (I was going to wait until I got my coin before doing anything further)- so I go to initiate the return process through eBay, and... it comes up with an alert that this seller does not accept returns LOL

I told them yesterday that I did not want to be inconvenienced over all of this, when this wasn't even my fault. Well.....

So, the latest drama.. As of lunchtime, I still had no update from the seller on my return slip, and that coin just sat here looking like toxic waste to me. I went up to the PO and shipped it myself, told the shipper how much the shipping was, and that they should have it back by Friday. As of now (12:45PM EST), I *still* don't have the return slip that they were sending..

Funny you say that. I did end up ordering another one of the same, just to have it :)

So I sent the erroneous coin back, they received it yesterday. I'm curious to see what's going to come my way out of this snafu. My guess is a car wash token XD

crazyone, this situation isn't sounding good. Keep us posted. Here's hoping for a positive outcome.

Regardless, keep stacking

Well, I can say this story actually had a happy ending..

My correct coin showed up yesterday (1930 Netherlands 2.5 Gulden coin), and with it, they included a 1944 1 Gulden coin. I am happy that they were kind enough to accommodate for their error, and I left them positive feedback on the Bay.

A 1930 2 1/2 G is a magnificent coin! And 1944 1 G is not too shabby either. Glad it worked out for you!
