Anyone Else Having a Decent 2023 Finding Silver?

Just thought I'd check this year vs. other years because it seems like things are going fairly well this year. So far this year I've gotten $895.50 in halves which yielded the following:

Walker or Franklin halves: 1
1964 Kennedy halves: 2
40% silver halves: 14
Total silver halves: 17 (0.9% for the year so far)

Except for the year 2019 (1.19% silver), this 0.9% figure is the highest percentage of silver I've gotten since the year 2010 (3.3% silver) when I had cancer all year and I think God was on my side during my long recovery. In other words 2023 so far is the 2nd best of the last 13 years. Not bad!

By the way, 2019 was so good largely because I had a trip to Ohio where I went to a single rural bank and got 26 silver halves (25 were 40%ers) out of $56.00 picked up.

Anyone else having a decent year finding silver?

Nice. I don't have luck getting coins at banks anymore. The most I can get at once is a couple rolls. I haven't found any silver this year.

Not too bad for less than two boxes!

That's a nice haul considering it's only about 2 boxes worth. You're very fortunate/lucky.

I know many ppl here and another forum I frequent have given up hunting silver halves.

The only statistics I keep are for Penny's. But I know I am zero for 9 boxes of halves, this year.

My last bag this week had just one 40%. The bag before had one 90% and 12 40 %. So not as good as 10 years ago but I still keep looking.

I have scored 12 silver halves so far this year (all FORTY percent). My record for one year is 118; that will be very tough for me to beat.

I haven’t found silver in a bank box in over 6 years, but I’ve gone down to about one box a year. I’ve got silver through cash transactions a couple times which is just as thrilling.

I want to update the silver numbers for 2023 mentioned at the beginning of this thread.

As I've mentioned before, this is still shaping up to be the very best silver year for me since 2010.

I've already found 74 silver halves this year (1.5% of the coins searched). In total, I've searched $2,418.00 in face value of halves so far this year. That is the most silver halves found and highest percentage of silver since 2010 when I found a whopping 553 silver halves (3.3% of those searched).

Keep in mind that when I started this discussion thread on July 20, I'd only found 17 silver halves (0.9% of total searched). In just 42 days it went from 17 silvers to 74 and 0.9% YTD to 1.5% YTD. This just keeps getting better!

My theory is that perhaps there were a bunch of collectors who died during the COVID years and their estates are just being settled now.

Anyone else having a good 2023 so far?

A 64 Rosie and a 67 Kennedy. Both found in change. That's all and the that's not bad for not actually searching.

Keep stacking/searching/accumulating.

Although this year has been slow due to three major surgeries, and another on the way, I still do what I can. Mainly currency searches, rather than coin. Star notes, fancy serial numbers, web notes, and errors can easily turn cash into silver.

Time for more coffee.

Earlier this year I found a 1966 JFK in Coinstar reject bin and a 1964 Rosy in change.

The 2023 wildness continues!

On Thursday, I got halves at 5 different banks.
Bank 1: .50 face- 0 silver
Bank 2: $8 face- (1) 40%er
Bank 3: $18 face- (1) 40%er
Bank 4: $30 face- (1) 40%er
Bank 5: $220 face- a whopping (39) 40%ers
$276.50 face total- an incredible (42) 40%ers (7.6% of the halves I searched) (so roughly 1 of every 13 halves was silver)

This was one of only 2 times that I got silver from 4 different banks in the same day. The other time was back on 11/10/17. But the 4 different banks only gave me (1) 40%er each and I had to search $973.50 to get (4) 40%ers. So Thursday was definitely better than 11/10/17. Got a lot more silver and had to search many fewer halves.

There was one day back in 2012 when I got silver from an incredible 7 different banks in a single day, but I had to search through $1,379.50 face that day- vs. only $276.50 on Thursday.

Ok, there weren't any 90% halves on Thursday, but I'm absolutely not complaining. Still, this is my best year with silver since 2010 and now my second best since 2004.

Revised YTD totals- $2,849.50 face searched- found 41 Walkers/Franklins, 8 from 1964, and 75 of the 40%ers. This is 124 silvers total or 2.2% of what I searched.
