Anyone Buying Ag/Au Right Now?

The decline has been so sharp that retail prices haven't fallen in lockstep with spot, but still the best buying opportunity we've had in some time! Hope you guys are taking advantage ;) I may be picking up an ounce of Au (well, a 100 corona is close enough) should spot fall to 1500.

8-) Does anyone think 38.50 is realistic? Or am I being to hopeful. I was thinking about cashing in treasury bonds currently yielding 5.3% for silver but not sure where the bottom is. Not feeling overly confident with the bond investment. I stacked some silver a few weeks ago at $42. These sure are turbulent times.

Only the paper chasers worry about spot. Keep stacking, you'll sleep just fine.

I wouldn't be, either. Willingly giving the government money - which they promptly spend - in exchange for a promise to give you less valuable money in the future... no amount of incentive could get me into such a deal.

I managed to get a small lot of silver dimes on Ebay for less than 30 X face for the first time in 3 weeks earlier today. I hope this decline lasts for at least a week so I can get a few deals this weekend.

If the spot price of silver is $38.50, then my guess is that:

#1 it won't be there very long
#2 few paper silver orders will get filled at that level
#3 no physical metal will be found at that level from dealers or informed public

The previous responses echo my sentiment as well.

Still buying silver, will buy on the way down, and buy on the way up. Need to make my pile bigger!

It has gotten to the point that I'm mad at the mailman if I don't have silver in my mailbox!

Buying an old British gold coin from a member here this week more for my own enjoyment than the investment value, although the Au/Ag ratio does seem to favor trading some silver for gold. Probably won't buy more silver any time soon unless this dip goes so low I can't resist. For me the capital involved is very limited so I'm not really stressing these decisions too much, I see it as a hobby that gives me some extra spending money once in a while.

nothing has changed, except the nominal quote on an exchange with a dubious reputation.

nothing has changed, S/D, tech's, the irresponsible machinations of the FED.....nothing.

as my purse allows, i will continue to buy currency insurance, because i will not be in some queue waiting for govt food, a hapless victim.

in many ways, turning savings, wealth to silver coins for trade, is a truly Jeffersonian form of rebellion, albeit, thank God, bloodless.

I nabbed some quarters today for 25X face, and won two Peace dollars for 30x, but other than that I've been skunked. Most prices are still at the same level that they were when silver was at 48+. Morgans are flying, the worst pieces of junk are bringing $40+, an $8 premium over melt. Years ago when silver was at $5/oz, cull Morgans were going for $6-8. Standing liberty quarters continue to bring very high prices as well. It seems that there aren't that many around anymore, my local coin dealer hasn't had any good ones in a while and there are only about 2000 or so listed on ebay.

EXACTLY! I really wonder how many folks on here view it like this? I just made a comment on the short term folks and how they are really missing the point (or at least a major part of the point) of PM's. If you COMPLETELY disagree with the above quote and are looking ONLY at it from a short term investment, then you'd be FAR BETTER off day trading! There is much more info available to those folks. (and I'm not bashing them... I'm just saying that silver is NOT a day trader item... unless you do this for a living).

Any suggestions on where to buy? Would like to be able to buy at spot but maybe talking spending $50 per week?

It's hard to pick a bottom, and as someone noted further above, even if you ID it, it's hard to actually execute at that bottom, especially with physical. I missed several chances in January to buy low because I was hoping for lower. I'm not waiting this time. Continuing to buy.

I've been following Realcent for quite a while, especially during this most recent run up in silver. Finally got around to registering so that I can chime in on the question of "Anyone Buying Ag/Au Right Now"?

Buying U.S. 90% junk silver on eBay has been my way of stacking silver. The first dip about a week and a half ago gave me a chance to pick up a lot more Franklin and Walking Libery halves. The dip Sunday/Monday helped me get even more around 30x face. I've been looking today for some even better deals. But I might just stop and wait a while longer to see where the price goes from here after I'm done buying today.

Just bought some junk 90% on ebay at 22.41% UNDER spot (after mr rebates and ebay bucks figured in). Got some at 14.5% under spot on 5/1/11. It seems that some folks are scared to buy right now. Don't they realize it's not a loss until they sell?

It seems all of the wild bidders on ebay have dissapeared overnight. I scored in one lot 10 franklins today at 22x face. I haven't been that lucky in two months. I also grabbed some BU Franklins this afternoon at $2 over melt value. A week ago, these would have sold for $5-10 over spot. Morgans and Peace dollars are still flying high with culls trading at $6-8 over melt. Another anecdote, two coin dealers called me today asking me if I finally wanted to buy. I told them that I would buy BU at $2-4 over melt and would pay melt for MS coins. One begged me if I would look at making a cash deal for some junk, told me I could pick through a few thousand of face he had taken in during the last two weeks. I told him that he knows me better than that, and that I only buy high quality to which he responded "i need the cash now" maybe we can make a deal. I'm going to go see him tomorrow, so we'll see what kind of deal I can get. What would you guys pay for junk? Even though I own thousands of coins, I've never bought bulk junk like that, but if the price is right, I might just do it.

I have no problem buying junk. It's just silver. Melts the same. Good for trade. At this point I would factor in a potential further dip, and his desperation - see what he'll take. I'd be up for some of it at a good price. I bought some over the weekend at what turned out to be high. I'm still buying - my overall cash basis is still far lower, but I wouldn't mind diluting the price of what I just bought. Right now value of junk with some wear is 27x, but this guy sounds like he would take well below that, and value tomorrow may drop another x to 26x. Would watch direction of things overnight and the morning. But since you've got that evidence, I would show him your ebay auction at 22x and tell him that's what you'll give him.

I will offer somewhere around 20x and see what happens. Yes, I couldn't believe the desperation. It seems he got all caught up in the excitement of the past few weeks and added a lot of inventory. He was probably buying at spot -10% and figured that he could flip it for spot or so. He probably didn't assume that he would be out another 15% in a week or that all of the buyers frantic new buyers would stop buying. In any event, I'll try and pick through the pile and see if I can find some nice Kennedy halves or Washingtons in VF condition or better. I also went down to the 47th Street jewelery district in Manhattan today. Nobody was selling junk scrap for less than $47 an ounce no matter how good or bad the objects were. They obviously took in a lot of stock and are unwilling to unload at a loss. I found a few things that never should have been scrapped in the first place including a fine George III candlestick that was thrown in a plastic bin like a piece of crap as well as a nice 1920's Cartier footed bowl that I could probably sell for spot +50%. It is amazing that people would part with these things just for a few bucks.

8-) Well I called my dealer today and picked up two roll of uncirculated eagles at $5 over spot which at the time was $39.31. Also picked up some 90% halves, quarters, and dimes. Like camero 68 I'm not taking any chances, besides My sights are long and we all know where that's heading+ Thanks for the input.
