Buying gold from those Cash for Gold stores

Postby Pennysaved » Fri Jul 15, 2011 12:47 pm

Has anyone ever went into one of those Cash for Gold stores to ask if they would sell any gold coins that they get in?

Just curious if they would be willing to resell directly since they would not have to send it out to the refiner.

If you don't ask, then the answer is No
Brick and mortar shop: buy, sell, and trade anything precious- coins, bullion, scrap, jewelry, gems, etc.

I tried doing this and heres some quick responses I get:
-Cant resale to public because they do not have a permit/not authorized to do so (like buying scrap from a scrapyard)
-Must wait an extended period of time for the items to clear (30 days, etc.)
-The employees there cant resale, only the owner/head boss can do that
-Their strictly just a buying operation
-"Yeah we have scrap gold at spot +20 per a gram and 90% at 35x-How much were you looking for?"

Back when PMs were skyrocketing in the late 70s I stopped by one of the "sell us your silver and gold" kiosks in a mall in Beaumont, Texas, and asked them if they'd sell PMs. They looked at me like I was crazy and gave me a flat "NO".

One jeweler I deal with gets a pretty good rate from a refiner and we talk metals from time to time. I started getting him into silver before the rise several months ago. Now he mentioned someone was coming in to sell him gold coins at spot (govt issued) and hed flip em to me for 15 over. I didnt get that deal to work out for a different reason but shows you dont ask you dont get!
