Kicking myself after an auction tonight

Postby Pennysaved » Thu Aug 04, 2011 12:31 am

I went to my 1st non coin auction and really messed up.

There was a 12 silver bar Norman rockwell set that was on bid

Hardly anyone there cared about them and it was just me and 2 other guys bidding; I didnt get to preview the auction thoroughly enough so I was not sure if they were 0.999 or sterling and if they were a full ounce or not.

Turns out they were 0.999 and they were a full ounce :-( One of the guys that works there won them.

I chickened out at $180 so he got them for about $207 after the 15% fee ARRGGGG

On the bright side, I did get a box that had 2 hummels in it for $30 and one of the hummels is excellent shape and is a 1967 GOEBEL CHARLOT BYJ 49 TRIM LASS REDHEAD FIGURINE and that same box was full of brass items for melting :)

Also got a lot of foreign coins for $7 and one of the coins was a Chinese dollar yuan with 0.7554 oz silver

To be honest though it is going to eat me up about those silver bars :-(

Sounds like you might have missed out on a good deal. However, had you understood their value during your bidding, the ultimate sales price would have been much higher. You wouldn't have won it so cheaply as you are intimating its final cost was. Or... the other bidder would have had to pay a lot more.

I have that set.. they are really nice. Of course I bought mine back when silver was about $4 an ounce.

Better to be safe than sorry. You could have kept bidding and have them end up being plated or something.... More deals will come along!

You have to go with what you know. If you need more info, try to get it.

Like mentioned above, you wouldn't have gotten them that cheap, chances are you would just have cost the other guy more, or paid a lot more yourself.

So don't feel bad, you'll be better prepared next time. :)
