Welcome to Friday, 5 August 2011

Heaven only knows what today will bring...probably a day we will look back on and say, "i remember that Friday the 5th of August"...history....cruel history.

the nail in the coffin of the "consumer society", but with every death, every winter...there can be rebirth. We just got to get ourselves right, and right thinking.

Just hope it wont be too severe. n.

Well, I hope you are wrong. I am going long today. I might not have the gut to stick it out until closing, but I am hoping to make a few rebound bucks. I have been sitting out the last couple of weeks and I need to try to use this volatility to my advantage. This should be entertaining. The gov't jobs guesstimate looks much better than most expected, and I'll be out of the market again before they quietly announce their downward revisions.

If you believe that I have some wetland, I mean farmland to sell you in south florida. Unemployment only fell because those unemployeed quit looking for work and have fallen off the rolls.

Here is even more disturbing news...

Food Stamp use rose to 45.8 million in July. One of six Americans are now on food stamps.

I'm still keeping my powder dry in my outside brokerage accounts. I have enough at stake already, thank you, in the 401K's... those I can ride out... but the last thing I need right now is margin calls.

I chickened out 10 minutes in. That's enough for me today. I'll watch this from the sidelines for now. I am usually quite level headed and play this volatility well to my advantage. This round I am too emotional, or scared even, to make rational decisions. I should be happy that I am still up almost 20% YTD on stocks. I'm 100% Cash and PM's right now.

They're gonna hammer the markets again in a few minutes. The silver mining equities are all down, just wait for the bullion to take a hit now

i was being sarcastic, which i reckon you didnt discern, and thank you for the kind land offer, but i never go south of the Mason-Dixon line, heck i rarely even go past county line WAY up here in the north, of course the numbers are cooked, everythings cooked, any official institution in this land aint nothing but a bunch of liars, stock jobbers, politicians, bureaucrats, bankers, generals, democrat, republican, journalists, even some pastors and priests...liars.......hey we got 4 plus hours left to trade, they could sink this thing another 500 to 1,000 points basis Dow and it wouldnt surprise me a bit.

Well, you called it. That's an interesting leading indicator. Hasn't yet been a big number, but they are trying again. What specific equities are you looking at when you are watching?

All the big silver miners: SLW, PAAS, EXK, SVM, AG, HL. Seems like they're shorting those in advance of the takedowns, and then scoop them back up after the bullion downdraft. Increases their opportunities to profit, and broadens the havoc they can wreak simultaneously.

I know Neil, was just making light of the coverup. Although I do have some land you might be interested in....or a bridge or two.

Actually its not bad down here below the Mason Dixon line. People for the most part are friendly and fairly easy to get along with. You just gotta speak their language.

Not over yet, but looks like today is a volatile mostly sideways - modest uptick at this point. Not sure what caused the rescue of the slide just after noon, but it was clearly a concerted effort - perhaps coordinated. And ever since it's been a violent sawtooth, as if there is a police action in effect to keep the market level, every time it tries to dip. Interesting day.

Well I'm heading home today after celebrating my 25th wedding anniversary with Mrs. Copper Catcher in Vegas!

I've been in a bubble since Monday and just picked up a paper this morning seeing that the world is falling apart even more.

I will be posting the FDIC report late on Saturday, that should be interesting.....

I won at the tables and when to the Golden Nugget and stopped by the Gold to Go vending machine and made a purchase. This was prior to gold hitting the all time high. The bars were over priced but still neat. Also, Mrs Copper hit a slots jackpot so she is happy going home with more money than she came with, which is rare in Las Vegas aka Lost Wages. :D

I'll check back later.

Roger that Hunter;sorry if i seemed ill tempered or light skinned, these are tough days for all of us, huh? Especially when most of us here, are only too hyper-aware of the gathering clouds.

Thats why i turned off the computer and dove into work. re: the Mason-Dixon...i'm so Yankee, it aint even funny, but what is funny of the rural north, i mean way north, is all the stations play country music, and i listen and i like, but i'm so darn Yankee, i like these winters, the trees, the way things smell....know what i mean?...folks are usually the same here...friendly, polite...and the langauage is a bit different...its "Minnesota nice"...yah, you bet, good deal.

plus what i'm working on now, the main character attended Tulane University in the early to mid 20's and was treated rather cruelly. No, he wasnt black...wasnt white, but this treatment shaped his developing character and qualities, which wound up shaping history. So i'm taking LA. to the woodshed for a spell, Texas and California too. Got to.

yep, i like the winter, when its gets sub zero, kills a lot of bugs and snakes, also it keeps those who cant hack it..away, and thus keeping the density of the county's population....low.

Congrats on 25 years, you're a wise man. I made a mess of my marriage, but God willing, i'll get her back.

Y'know...now it all depends on Europe in my opinion, if the EuroZone and ECB muck this mucked up situation further...and they will, thats what will hit our already fragile Equities and Debt mkts. Spain, Greece, Italy, take your pick, those countries are the trigger now.
