I'm thinking about all the old folks out there in my city. I'd like to buy their silver for 15 times value (canadian coins are 80%). But how?

Any idea?

Some problems I anticipate:

1) Security (if people know I am buying, then my appartment may be at a risk);
2) Ethics (I don't want been accused of robbing old people).

I'm sure they are thousands of old coins sitting there and people that would be more than happy with 15 times face value.

Any idea or any experience to share?

#2 - Caveat Emptor

#1 - Take up duck hunting, get a Remington 12 gauge (Mossburg makes a nice sporting arm also) and a lot of #6 shot.
If you happen to be in the U S of A, mail some 00 buck shot back, so you can sport hunt for venison.

If you have a Canuk-A-Moose permit the proper sporting arm might come in useful, eh?

Here is what I am thinking about doing in my city. Place an ad in the local paper's classified ad section. List what you will pay for. Don't just say you will pay 15x face. Most people will not know what that means. Tell them what each coin is worth to you. Betcha you get some folks calling you up!

Something like this: I buy old silver coins, top dollar offered, Your phone number.

Try it and see what happens.

Oh, and we have talked about the apartment before. I still think you should consider a safety deposit box until you save up enough to buy your own place.

I wouldn't use my home phone. For $15 per week, you can get a 2nd cell phone line.

Yeah I would't use my phone number; but not sure 15$ a week could make it... not sure how this can be profitable.

Of course I could write email address, but old folks don't go on the Internet, are they?

I don`t know where you are, but you can get a NET 10 PHONE here for $15. per month, with 150 minutes.

I don`t think you will use more than that buying coins.
when the phone rings you will know it is to sell you coins.

Got an offer after I put an ad.

I offered exactly 62% of the price according to coininflation.

Do you think it's fair?

Sometimes I feel like people could get more money selling on Ebay...

just because they could get more money selling on ebay doesnt mean they would.
Pawn shop in town, will sell on ebay, They take 25% plus all fees.

That would put you down to about 70%. I think if you let them know what its worth when you buy it then there is nothing wrong.

I ran across some Sterling serving pieces at a garage sale that a "little old lady" runs continuously a few miles from me. I didn't buy them, as at the time I didn't really want to pay a fair price nor did I have a way to weigh them. I told the lady about what I thought they would bring on Ebay. I don't think she even owns a computer, but she said something about getting her grandson to help her put them up. I think the main problem with Ebay and the elderly, besides their usurous pricing, is the complicated process of opening an account. Then there's the even more complicated process of opening a Paypal account. I think it is just too scary for most older folks.

I'd like to help those old folks... I'd pay 16-20 face value... but I don't know how to do it. Seems complicated to me...
