I found a 1994 P Silver Eagle PR68 today and I think the guy wanted 80 bucks for it. I'm trying to get an idea of about how much the coin is worth. Does anybody happen to know?

I'm not big on proofs personally. I think they are over-valued.

Thank you very much this is exactly what I was looking for. I'll have to bookmark this.

I like casual coin collecting as well as just stockpiling copper and silver.

I heard the price on this dropped a considerable amount in the last year or two, and I was thinking of picking it up.

David, here's my recommendations:

1st Buy the coins you like.
2nd If you are getting graded coins. Stick with PCGS. Period. When you get a better eye start looking at the other third party graders.
3rd Don’t buy a modern Proof 68. Only buy 69 and 70. The market for 68 and less SUCKS.
4th Money is hard to come by and easy to let go by so do your homework. Spend some time on eBay looking at completed auctions.
5th Great deals in the retail aspect of coin collecting are few and far between. Most great deals are on inventory that is hard to move. Ie proof 68 eagles.

In my opinion, high grade eagles are over valued. People are taken in by the high grades....."But its MS70!". Yes, but usually the coin isn't very old, and the mintage numbers are high. As a consequence, they have no numismatic value. If I were going to spend $80.00, I would buy as much "junk silver" I could for the dollar, regardless of what the coin or coins look like. Just my opinion.

Thank you for the advice. The only graded coins I have at the moment are MS and PR 70. I couldn't find a standard price it seemed from ebay auctions for this, which is why I posed the question. I suppose a small market for them would explain this.

As far as buying junk 90%, I found that I have taken a taste for other items as well recently. I have several months of my income invested in 90%, and so I started buying sterling items. I recently acquired a sterling bookmark, and am currently looking for a sterling zippo. I like items like this, and the silver makes it easy to justify spending the money.

Canadian silver maple leaf one ounce coins go for around $35.00.
