Keeping or Selling?

I bought 5 25th anniversary AE sets with the obvious intention of selling them and making a buck (or, hopefully, many bucks). However, the more I think about it, the more I think I might be inclined to keep one. I've never really been able to get in on the ground floor of something like this before. I'm wondering if I'm going to be kicking myself in 10 or 20 years that I didn't keep one when I had 5 of them. On the other hand, I bought them to make a profit and I don't usually care much about proof coins and mint marks and I can buy a lot of "lesser" silver for what I can get for one of these sets. I say all that to ask a simple question: are you selling all your sets or are keeping at least one?

I thought about keeping 1 myself. However with the prices they are currently selling for on eBay and companies like APMEX buying them $425. I feel it's worth selling all the sets and putting the profit into other investments. I can totally see keeping one if you want to get into numismatic or graded territory, that's just not my bag. I recently bought a gold coin I was so excited to send into get graded, but then I settled down and realized it wasn't me. I bought an air-tight and figure that is enough for now.

The 2006 sets sell for $300-$400 for 3 coins, mainly I see the reverse proof selling for the most premium. So this 2011 has 2 "rare" coins even at $150 a coin I see the set down the road at $750. All depending on the price of silver of course, if silver goes to $100 an ounce this one set could be worth $1000+.

Selling mine! (buying the wife something nice with some of the profits) :D

Good question, I'm in the same boat. I am looking forward to the knowledgeable advice from other members. Definitely thankful to have been able to purchase these sets.

I will keep one set and sell the rest. That way I will have a free set plus hopefully a very tidy profit.

100%+ profit is nothing to sneeze at. If I actually get them I'll sell. No regrets if they go higher. If I were certain I was getting them, I'd do a presale and lock in the gains.

I'm not sure what I'm doing now either.

My original plan was to get the ordered and sell to Goldmart. Then I saw APMEX paying more so I figured I'd just wait for them.

Now I'm thinking these could go for significantly more. Might be able to sell one and keep 4 for free. If it goes that route I may sell 2 keep 3 and see what happens from there.

Fortunately I don't need the money that will be used to purchase these.

I will definitely be selling at least 4 sets, but I'm not yet sure what my strategy will be. I would love to do a "Pre-sale," but am still nervous that something could go wrong before I get my sets. I will put a couple up for sale as soon as I get some sort of shipping confirmation that they are on their way. As far as the 5th set, I'm undecided. Normally, I don't care much about rarity and mint marks and those things, but this does look like a cool set that I would like to have in my collection. We shall see.

I didn't get in on this order (by preference...ok, ignorance) so who am I to chime in... but if it was me, I'd take the quick profit and reinvest in as much non-numie silver as you can get for your money. If, as I expect, silver reigns as chaos rules, the price of silver will skyrocket, but in such an environment there will be fewer "collectors" and, I would expect, numie premiums would shrink in comparison to the performance had by merely common grade silver. If TSHTF... who is going to pay anything extra for rare silver eagle varieties? It all depends on your perspective, but I think purchases like these reveal who the preppers for worst-case scenarios are vs who just thinks life is pretty much clear sailing, nothing is gonna change, and "here's an investment that can't lose." I may be an alarmist, but as others refer to in the storm clouds gathering thread... I fear we are fast-approaching the last days of "normalcy."

I can't believe the silver baron didn't get in on this. I agree with Ray. Selling mine at the peak of the market which I think will be within the first few weeks after release. Maybe I will buy one back at some time in the future when the price comes down.. maybe not. Of course I am wrong just as often as I am right. The first time they had a "rare" silver eagle I just couldn't pull the trigger at $1,000 for $700 worth of gold. Those Kennedy sets were a good play at $60.. I can't believe the postman left those 5 sets sitting on the top of my mailbox all day.

SELL SELL SELL! They will go up in value for a little while and than drop again! Sell and use the profits to buy silver or copper :)

Being I don't have anything graded I am thinking what the heck. 3 are gone, I'm keeping 2 and sending one in to be graded. Will it be the kiss-of-death 69.. Who knows but, I have waited a long time to try for a 70 and I think this will be attempt number 1.
