What makes the most sense?

If you can see the coins WELL and can see that some of them will certify as "70" then certifying them makes sense.

Otherwise it does not.

You will likely see the coins sell for more raw than 69 status. As is the case with most "semi-bullion" such as this.

Assuming you send in an unopened box of 5 sets, what % do you think comes back 69 and what % 70?

Whatever the percentage is, if all you are doing is getting a "blind percentage" you WILL LOSE MONEY by doing that.

Unless you are assured a higher rate of "70" than normal you LOSE MONEY by grading.

- You pay the grading fees
- And every 69 is worth less than the "raw" equivalent.

In terms of price on the after market:

68 or below < 69 < Raw < 70

Liquidity:

68 or below < 69 < 70 < Raw


So "Raw" is more liquid, although less expensive than "70". But every other variant is less liquid and worth less.

You can't open them to get the first strike special set grading holder. This is a problem because you could get a flawed coin and you won't know it untill you send it in. If they come back 69's than you just wasted some money because 69's don't bring a very big premium. If you get a 70 you will get somewhat of a premium but not a huge one.

I would reccomend keeping raw.

Well a 70 will bring a good profit, I sold just the reverse proof from 2006 for over $450 in a PF70, while the loose coin only brings $200 or so, but if you get 69's or lower( which most sets will grade at) yyou are looking at maybe a $20 increase in price over raw, and alot of the times they sell for less than the raw version, and you are spending more than $20 to get them graded.

My thoughts are if you plan on keeping them, and have other graded coins than try for the 70, otherwise it is a huge gamble, to try and profit even more from these sets

You will have a very hard time getting more for a 69 than a raw one.

Stick with the raw sets. The difference is so small between 69 and 70 that it's not even worth the guessing...

I'm going raw although I did consider going for early release or first strike. In the end I decided to follow the ideas of barrytrot and Highroller.

Keep them in the original mint box with the mint packing stuff and you can send them in for "early release" any time.
