Anyone ever buy a 1000 oz silver bar? Who did you buy it from? Have you ever sold one? Who did you sell it to?

We have a metals exchange house locally called Fidelitrade. My friend bought these two 1000ozers when silver was $1200 and sold at $1600.

I bet he could kick himself now....

I know that both APMEX and Tulving Company sell them. Tulving's may be out of stock now. But when he has them you can buy them close to spot price. You can sell them at a lot of places including the above, but be prepared to take a lot less than spot price when you do sell since there is not a lot of investor demand for them. Even 100 ounce bars are starting to be considered too big now.

drool... I wish I could trade these but I'll stick to the smaller rounds and bars. I like how the Market Harmony bars look like little sisters of these big poured bars actually.

Ardent Listener,

I know with Fidelitrade, the max they take as fees is 1.75% either above or below spot. He paid 1.25% in that quantity

He would have paid $300.00 in fees when buying 2000oz at $24,000.00 and, when he sold at $16/oz he was charged $400 for the $32,000.00 worth of silver. He recieved $31,600.00 from the sale.

Is that a lot?

I believe 1000 ounce bars are always an odd thing to sell, except for metal exchanges like Fidelitrade.

100 oz bars are not that unusual. It's a nice size IMO.

I think 10 ounce bars are the optimal balance of low premium and liquidity. Plus they are well under the $600 1099 thing, for now.

Yes! By displaying an example of a thousand ounce bar, plus a way that I know to trade it, I was not endorsing or promoting the thought of buying one.

I would not buy one if small denominations were available or I did not already have a large quantity of small stuff.

What started this line of thought?

I think they weigh about 68 pounds. Make a nice boat anchor.

I would take one given to me in a nanosecond.

I agree, 10 ounce bars at the right premium is the way to go..........unless silver breaks $60 that is. :mrgreen:

I was only thinking about a silver price crash. Last time it was around $10 the premium was multiples $'s no matter what the form was. But the premium on 1000oz bars was still very small. Should have bought a couple back then.
