NEED HELP identifying colonial, foreign, and ancient coins

Postby uthminsta » Sat Dec 17, 2011 12:50 am

Brought a few thousand coins home tonight, to help attribute stuff at the local shop. So... anyone know much about these? Cent included for size comparison, of course...

Are there any colonial issue experts around? This is the first time I've seen a New Jersey copper (or replica). It says NOVA CAESAREA above a horse head and plow, and E PLURIBUS UNUM around a shield.

One more pic. I don't know much about ancient coins, but these seemed real to me:
The "California Gold" was just in there for fun.

Top right is Thailand, Top left is a Hindu temple token from India.

The one below the temple token is an Egypt 5 millieme.

bottom picture, the two on top left are probably Indian Statess, bottom left token, the rest look to be Greek/Roman ancients.

Thanks for the help, NBC. Took the colonial back in to the shop today (when they buy collections with stuff like this in it, they send it home with me and I attribute it when I get some free time). They were glad to see something good that stood well above the average world junk bin stuff.

So they are having me take thousands of loose world coins and make 100-coin "starter collections."
100 different Mexican coins
100 different German coins
100 different coins with animals
100 different Canadian coins
100 tokens
etc...
I am thinking it would be nice to put together one that is 100 pure nickel coins, and another that is 100 copper/bronze and see if they sell. Now where is that nickel bullion list I remember seeing somewhere on the site, several months back...

They "0" looking thing on the Egyptian coin is Arabic for "5", just as a general FYI for other similar coins.

For lyberte shold not be wel sold for alle the gold and syluer of all the world
