I seem to have found a dime error

Postby uthminsta » Sat Jan 07, 2012 12:08 am

I was going through my silver tonight, picking out the better condition stuff to roll separately, and came across this. I hadn't noticed it before... anyone think this is a lamination?

Seems to be a lamination, the peel below the ear is a tell tale sign.
The squared off areas are part of the lam too.
Got Laminated Lincolns? Give me a buzz.

I Emailed Mike Diamond last year President of Coneca http://conecaonline.org/ and asked

Happy New Years-- One of the members of real cent found this dime is it a lamination?. http://realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=15&t=10936

And got this back---

It appears to be a lamination. You'll notice some metal peeling up around Roosevelt's earlobe.

Sweet. So the next question, as always, is... how much is it worth? I mean, you know... even us pure numismatists like to make a few bucks off our discoveries! :)
It looks like it circulated quite a bit AFTER that stuff peeled off.

I have a cheap Wal-Mart printer/scanner - Kodak ESP 3250 - but I've used others with results just as good. I just lay the coin(s) on the flatbed and scan it. Then I crop the extra space off so you're only getting the coin, not all the extra "white space." The only trick, if it could be called a trick at all, is to change the scan settings to a higher resolution. The one you see above is at 1200dpi, the highest my scanner will do. I think "normal" is 300dpi. Then there's also the flickr website. Once you upload the image to their site, you can choose what size photo you want to copy from...

In the absence of a scanner, I am of the opinion that direct sunlight is the best for taking pictures of coins. Just sayin.
So... anyone wanna tell me my coin is worth a bunch?
