Too many pennies making my head spin!!!

Postby christostock » Mon Jan 09, 2012 9:10 am

I bought an estate about 7 months ago.
I have about 300-500 pounds of copper pennies.
Most are in tubes and dated.
Some tubes full others not full.
My dilemma is this,
Do I dump them all together to get a count?
Do I leave them in tubes and have no clear idea of how to weigh them because of the full and not full tubes.
I also have tubes and rolls of newer pennies that mean nothing to me but are dated.
Do I just take these to the bank and pay down my mortgage?
I also have a list of BU red pennies listed here
http://www.bullionstacker.com/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=5841&p=111929#p111929

Thanks in advance for any suggestions.
Chris

Don't dump the coppers, someone here will buy them.

Somebody might be interested in the rolls of zincs, but you will have to be more specific.

You might want to get a digital scale which costs btween $10 and $15. A full role of copper pennies should wiegh around 155 grams (3.1 grams x 50) and while role of zinc pennies (A.K.A. "Zincolns") should be closer to 125 grams (2.5 grams x 50).

If the rolls of zinc pennies are uncirculated you should able to them sell at a premium.

I would look through the rolls and see how accurately they are labled because you may have some good stuff in there. Just take everything you don't want and put it into a bucket and take it to the bank one day. If you want to save the copper or sell it than that is your choice.

I am not certain, but I think that was a joke. As in, if you think 500 pounds of pennies is too much, you are at the wrong place.

Yeah, I guarantee if you start a thread in the market area, and give us enough info, you will have takers. I'd like some specific dates of BU rolls...

Well, I am working on getting my 10 posts before I can post in the for sale area.
I think I need more rambling before I can start selling here??
Is that right or wrong.

I have a very hard time stopping myself when bidding on something.
I get all crazy and spend way too much money just to show the other guy that I could win.
Then I can never recover my $$$ cause I spent wayyyy toooo much.
Sorta like drinkin, always waayyyy tooo much.
So I do my best to not bid in competitive Auction type settings.

So here is a little more about myself perhaps you guys should know.
My last post was just not enough, as I said, I need more of everything.
I do have 4 different scales. I also have 4 different coin counting machines. 2 modern and 2 antique types.
Bought all this stuff to be able to do this coin thing more efficiently.
So now I need more coins to make all these scales and counters earn their keep.
Am I starting to fit in here yet?? ;) :P

I believe you have received more than a couple packages!
But thank you anyway, I like it here, well beside the TAX part of my home state.

Careful now, don't want to get Ray mad at me :D
But, you're right.
The folllowing was listed on saturday night at about 11:30 and most was sold before market opening on Sunday.
I do my best to find deals and move them along to other people looking for deals.
I usually make about 1-1.5% on most items I buy and sell right away.
I have learned to just be happy with the low percent as holding metal in a down market makes me kinda grumpy.
I just can't seem to stop though. :D
