Speakers?

Postby mj74 » Fri Jan 13, 2012 12:49 am

I occasionally get speakers from people, with other item that they give me. I usually just toss them out, because there is really nothing in them.
Lately my sisters boyfriend, has been taken them, and after getting a good mount together,he puts them on Ebay, just to see if there is a market for them. he has sold a box of them to a person in Russia, and now today another person in Korea bought some. Now the shipping for these are more than what they bought them for ei- Russia paid $12.99 + $62 for shipping. Why would they be buying these?

Whats sizes and kinds? Some of the motors can be rebuilt and that makes them worth while. We keep a 55 gal Barrell at the shop and throw them in. I just take them to the scrap yard. I do keep the amps and gut them for the AL heatsinks.

I would be fearful of the payment being a scammed account coming from russia or china. Positive that if it has no real value then there must be some scam angle.

I have done very well selling old and used electronic items overseas through eBay. A lot of developing countries are still using older technologies to run their businesses, and sometimes common items in the US are hard to get in smaller countries. Also, a lot of countries have high taxes on certain items, including electronics - so it may still be cheaper for their citizens to buy them from overseas, since many packages go through customs unsearched. There are also many audiophiles in Korea, I have sold a few vintage amps there.

Just be sure to keep your descriptions simple and to take many pictures that clearly show condition because of language barriers.

At this point, no one on eBay is going to overpay for a basic electronic item to try to scam you. Just be careful with more valuable electronics, like high-end audio equipment and newer laptops.

I've got a good number of speakers baskets, about the size of the ones in the picture, just minus the paper cone and the copper wire... i'd like to find a buyer for them
