My penny hoard

Postby mtldealer » Mon Jan 23, 2012 12:10 am

Lately I have been picking up boxes of pennies at the bank and just shelving them. I have been focusing on sorting halves... Silver. Tonight I went to start working on the pennies and found at least 2 x 25 boxes of brand new 2011 shields (out of 500$.) Damn, now I gotta figure out what to do with them. Bummer. Hopefully there isn't any more.

There will be more! I got two the other day as well. I thought it was strange this late in the 2011 cycle but what are you going to do? I just unroll and mix in on my dump lots so they are not all new pennies in the lot.

Unroll, dump and get the next batch. Good luck!

Dump one box in a coin counter... good way to check its accuracy!

Pretty depressing feeling when you barter a box from the bank only to see solid zinc, huh? It was exciting back in 2009 with the cents honoring Lincoln, as those boxes carried a premium.
