Gold Coin in Penny Roll

So I'm hand sorting some pennies the other night and this nice golden rim is shinning back at me. Anyone else had this happen only to find a 20 cent peso?

yeppers it happens...gold toned pennies, silver toned pennies, gold toned halves my favs are the toned silver halves.

If I am not mistaken, someone on here has actually found some $2.5 gold eagles. In pennies before.

I myself, have yet to find silver in my pennies yet. Still hoping.

I seem to remember that as well. I did find out that this 20c Peso has a sterling silver center.

In 1993, coins of the new currency (dated 1992) were issued in denominations of 5, 10, 20 and 50 centavos, 1, 2, 5, 10, 20 and 50 nuevos pesos. The 5 and 10 centavos were minted in stainless steel and the 20 and 50 centavos in aluminium bronze. The nuevo peso denominations were bimetallic, with the 1, 2 and 5 nuevos pesos having aluminium bronze centres and stainless steel rings, and the 10, 20 and 50 nuevos pesos having .925 silver centers and aluminium bronze rings. In 1996, the word nuevo(s) was removed from the coins. New 10 pesos were introduced with base metal replacing the silver centre. The 20 and 50-peso coins are the only currently circulating coinage in the world to contain any silver.

right. so do you have a 20 centavo or a 20 peso? Because a 20 centavo could possibly fit in a penny roll, but a 20 peso would fit closer in a half dollar roll.

Hi there-

A Mexican gold 5 pesos would be pretty spot on to fit in a penny roll, always dream of finding a couple. I have found silver in penny rolls before.

I've ran across one of those while sorting late at night, at first I didn't bat an eye at it and then I shook myself awake only to find disappointment, heh. But there is always the chance!
