Struck it rich (now with pics)

Postby motos » Fri Feb 03, 2012 9:42 pm

No pictures right now but will come.

A teller had saved a bunch of wheat pennies for me and there was more than wheat involved!

15 dollars in rolls of wheats/copper. 10 dollars solid wheat rolls.

Also included in the wheat rolls were
- about 20 1943s
- 8 Indian Heads (got an 1873!)
- 1931 D
- and the Tour De Force 1 Merc Dime (date unreadable)

Easily the most exciting penny night ever. Only had to "sort" 15 dollars! Haha

Oh and just to clarify
IH:
1907
1897 x 2
1905
1882
1909
1873

and one that was 190- and the last number has a giant mar or chip.

Definitely more than the standard dollar amount for the G4 190X's. What's anyone's best guess on the buying value of a 73 in G4?

Congrats! That's awesome. Also, consider yourself super lucky to get so many Indians at one time. :) Keep pounding away at those relationships with those tellers. They always pay off in the end.

It is always amazing to me what ordinary people do!

They probably thought that they were getting away with something by putting the "crazy" coins in the rolls!

Good for you, and may it come again!

Nice job! Lay that 1873 on a scanner bed and scan it. It makes for nice clear closeup pictures. Here's mine, and how much I had to pay for it... Sounds like yours is better lookin!

Hey Uthminsta,
I don't have a scanner but I will try to take some nice macro shots when I get back home. What grade is yours considered?

Thanks

That would be BU... butt ugly.
Just kidding.
I would consider that FAIR-2. Maybe even POOR-1. No real damage, just a lot of years of wear. The date is stronger than this scan gives it credit for, and is readable with good eyes, or a little magnification. The grading system goes poor 1, fair 2, about good 3, good 4-5-6-7, very good 8 and so on... I'm not positive, but I think the qualification for GOOD is a full rim? Anyone know? And if 3 or more letters of LIBERTY show, it's VERY GOOD? I don't know for sure.
