which ones to save again?

Postby atticus » Wed Feb 15, 2012 8:27 pm

Hey all,

Besides everything pre-1960 and 2009's, what Jefferson's are folks saving up? Are the Lewis and Clark's worth it, or were there a bunch minted? Also, without a book, where would I find that info on my own? Any recommendations for Nickel sites?

Sorry if a bunch of your responses might be redundant. I've searched for a while tonight, and don't have the right combination of terms I guess. Maybe there could be a sticky with a list of what to look for while sorting like with the cents? Just a thought.

Appreciate any input.

I save 38-59. Just for easy remembering. Some folks save 64 and earlier because of the significance of that date in conjunction with silver searching. But here's what makes the most SENSE to me. Look for mintages under 100 million. Most of those are 1961 and before.

I save all my nickels, well, except for the very dirty, tarnished, and damaged. I do keep the "Westward" nickels including the best looking 2006 'return to Monticello' seperate. I also keep my pre 1960 five cent pieces in a seperate bag.

Me personally, the only Jeffersons I save are the '38 and '39 with mint marks. Along with the occasional proof that was let loose from a broken up set.
