Sometimes they just slip by you

Postby reddirtcoins » Tue Feb 21, 2012 4:42 pm

So I was dumping today and out pilks a 30s in the reject bin... I hate when that happens.
Been having issues with my ryedale just on zincs for some reason and since I did 1000fv this weekend I just said what-the-heck.. and dumped the zincs. Should have know better...

Just one? I use the ryedale ace and then hand sort the copper to pull out any zincs and wheats, I sorted 75.00 and dumped the zince at the band and out popped 6 wheats pre 1945

I have been using a ryedale apprentice for about 3 years and it seems to work very well. I also sort through the coppers to pull out the wheat, canadian and red pennies that I find. I sorted 600fv this weekend and had real good luck. I found 360 wheats and the normal 30% copper from up here in NE Indiana. I do not attempt to search the zincs so I do not know if I am losing wheats or not. I have found very few older wheat pennies in my sorting over the last 3 years, but they do appear occasionally. Its good to know that I am not the only large copper hoarder out there.

Good Luck! May you accumulate as much coppers as possible!

Ya I sort through the coppers for wheat and Canadians. Normally just eye ball the zinc side as I run. Have found a few wheats in the zinc side not a lot most def in copper side. Did find an Indian on zinc side . It's an acceptable loss to me if I miss something because the primary objective is copper anything else is bonus.

We were dumping zinc cents and my so Franklin kneed the Coinstar who know why and out came a 1964 silver half. I have got wheats after a hand sort dump. I wound say that coins can get stuck I the coin counter. And when you dump a large amount you tend to free it up.

Yes, that sort of thing has happened to me too. I dumped a load of pennies and as it started to count, suddenly it was ringing up nickels and dimes too. Altogether I got an extra $3 or so. I wondered how that could happen. Did someone just push the "Finished" button too fast and the machine didn't have time to flush them out?

Wish my local coin stars offered Kroger gift cards so I could use them for fuel.
