Thanks guys, I am still in disbelief that I found such a coin! I'm so glad to be able to share the find with the realcent family. I'll try and get some better pictures of it up here later today. Unfortunately I will have to wait until next week to get it looked at and sent in to be graded. From my very uneducated eye, I would say this guy is somewhere between Fine and Very Fine. I'm hopeful it comes back VF.
The coin searching gods sure have smiled upon me. Before this discovery, I found my 8th wild Indian in an earlier box yesterday. Crazy how that doesn't even deserve mentioning after finding the VDB!
I am located in Nebraska. The coin came from a Loomis box, wrapped in Omaha, NE and picked up by me at a bank in Lincoln, NE. I know it had to be fairly recent, as all the boxes I picked up on the last run were stamped with a date in March 2012. Creshka-looks like that article was from 2006, so it is possible that it could be the coin he leaked and it finally made its way out here 5 or 6 years later!
As NHsorter said, you never know what will turn up in the zinc pile. I've had many times of pouring through the thousands of rejects only to find nothing, which is discouraging. But stumbling upon this beauty makes me thankful I kept doing it. I have always thought that if I didn't check each coin, I would end up cashing in a great find such as this, and this time I would have been right. Leave no stone unturned, they are out there boys!!
