CAT5 Panel E-Waste Question

Need an e-waste expert or someone who knows what this is to chime in. I got a whole mess of CAT5 patch panels to scrap. The faceplates are aluminum so I've separated all of those into a pile. Now, most panels have four to eight of these. Is there anything worth saving for scrap here? If so, are these considered low-grade boards? Telecom? I will have at least 400-500 pounds of these. 4-500 pounds of them? That is a bunch of knock down panels. I just did 20 of them and I had enough! The ones we just did are the newer style that the connection is really the end of the cat5 cable. So you just yank the cables from behind the telco rack and they snap out. Then you de-rack the panels and toss them in the AL box. On yours, the type with the phone connectors on them, the AT&T ones, well we just tossed them in out "gold pin cable end" box and got $1.80 a pound for them. They will not go telecomm, and mid grade might be a chance, but they look low grade to me. Let us know as we always seek new info on scrap!

Yes I have been busy! Two full trailer loads are piled up in my storage unit. I've been working on these for two weekends now but I've gotten pretty fast at stripping them down. I separate the aluminum front panel from the steel, then unscrew the boards, then remove the steel standoffs they were mounted to. On the backs of these the wire was punched down, but it rips out easily. I would even be satisfied with low-grade board price since this is all pure profit. Nothing invested but my time! $1.80 a pound for the AT&T boards would be awesome. I have a few buckets full of old IDE and parallel cables ends I could add to it as well.

I sent out an email to all of the sites listed with pictures, so when I hear back I will give an update.

Quick update as I got two emails back.

Easy Recycle counts them as server grade boards and is paying 4.3.

Cash For Computer Scrap would pay out connector price for them at $1.85 lb.

I would classify these as medium grade boards or connectors, definitely not server boards.

But if you can sell them as server boards for that price, do it. That would actually make it worth all of the time to separate them.

Just got an email from Chris at Boardsort.

The boards in pic 2726,jpg (with the jacks on it) are worth $2.45 per
pound as Peripheral Board.

The other boards in pic 2727.jpg are unfortunately Mid-Grade worth
only $0.40 per pound.

I think he's going to get my business.
