US MINT SEWN BAGS.

Postby marine70 » Sun Apr 22, 2012 8:53 am

I have a chance to buy some $50 bags of pre-82 mint sewn bags. Does anyone know what a good offer would be on these.

Mint bags from the '70s are not all that in demand. Besides the copper weight there's not much there. I'd pay a decent premium for a sealed 1972 bag (doubled die potential), and for any of the S mint years '68-'74...but for a 1979 bag? maybe $70

I'm assuming you meant bags from the 1970s.

I would think all dates like the 1972 - those with obvious potential for numismatic profit - would demand a significant premium, if it could be proven they were original mint sewn bags. Also, I for one would like to have a bag from my birth year. But what years are you looking at?

I was able to purchase a bag of 73's for $90. I thought it was a decent deal. Happy with my purchase. I would think any under 2x would be a good deal and would jump on them. Anything over that would depend on the year

100 bucks a bag if the dates are nothing special. Once again depends on how many bags the person has.

if they are 1972 I would pay $175 a bag or $110 a bag for any other year pre 1982
and $125 for a bag from 1980(birth year)

Well I bought four bags from a coin dealer he stated he had got them from an estate. There are several dates stamped on the bags then blacked out so they are all marked 1974 from the Denver mint. After getting home I noticed that one bag had a small tear by the seam, so much for a sealed bag on this one. I gave $100 a bag maybe I payed to high time will tell.
