Hot Streak

Postby Hawkeye » Sat Apr 21, 2012 8:52 am

I'm a small time hand sorter and I usually pick up around $10 in nickels and $5-10 in pennies every week. I have had some great luck the last few weeks and I thought I'd brag a little. For 3 weeks straight, I managed 1 war nickel out of $10. 3 war nickels out of $30 total is pretty good, I think. This week, I got no silver, but I did get a full date Buffalo, which was cool. And, the even better score: in my $5 of pennies, I got not one but two Indian heads. A slightly rough looking 1900 and a nice looking 1896. It must have been a freak thing, because they were in different rolls and the rolls weren't anything great - a couple wheats and an average amount of copper. Anyway, maybe I should have bought a powerball ticket a few weeks ago. ;)

Are you saving any pre-60 nickles also?

I save all my nickels, but I do separate everything pre 64.

Sorted a box of pennies tonight. The theme of the 2012 penny is in this latest batch. I still have 2 more boxes left to sort. Interestingly enough, although more than 50 percent of the pennies are 2012, I'm still finding a decent amount of coppers. I found 5 wheats and 5 Canadians in this box. I've nearly filled up one tube full of wheat pennies so far :)
