1857 Flying Eagle Cent

Postby tinhorn » Wed Jul 11, 2012 8:17 pm

Finally had some time to go through the final reject can in my multi-sort process. As you can imagine, there were some really unattractive coins in that container. So while I'm hand-sorting the rejects of the rejects, I thought I saw the back of an Indian Head. It was pretty encrusted. I couldn't make out the front--it looked more like a flying bird than a human head. The eagle-eyed missus read the date: 1857! Woot! I'm glad I've invested so much time working on cleaning processes.

Will post pics later.

Nice. Even Indians are so rare, this must be even rarer. I really would like to know what the chances of finding Indians and large cents are...
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.
