Quick Survey- How You Doin'?

Postby Robarons » Tue Jul 17, 2012 12:20 am

I noticed more and more I am finding some 'picked' rolls that stray farther from my normal averages and even I think some competition popped up in my area for pennies and other coinage.

My percentages as a whole arent moving too bad, going down slightly, but nothing to make me sweat my sorting.

But it definitely feels like there are some more kids in the pool! In 2007 it was easier than now!

Whats your feelings and any changes in your area?

I've only been doing it since last March/early April, so I haven't noticed much if any change in the copper %. What I have noticed, even in just a few months, is more shields relative to memorials...
267,500 pennies and 186,000 nickels searched. Hand sorter.

My take is as god as it was a year ago. Approaching 30% on boxes and bags. CWR varies slightly but if you average all the CWR it is probably in the same range as the boxes and bags. If I run a $50 bag and dump the zinc the next day, I am almost always walking out of the bank with just about $35 or so. I have been thinking about placing a $1000 order to keep a stockpile on hand. This way if when percentages do drop, I'll still have a good stash on hand to go through.

Slowly seeing more 2012's and fewer and fewer wheats.....even the common ones!

Lucky to get 20 wheats per $50 bag. Copper % is steady at least for now.

Back to doing terrible on percentages. If this doesn't change soon my sorting of penny days might come to an end. I did order two boxes of ni. this week so maybe that will keep me busy.

I built up a reserve of $300 to handsort a few months ago. Busiest time of year at my "real" job and can only sort a few hours sundays(my only day off) but I get $20 at the bank each week, and sort the "fresh" ones first. By october when Im back to 5 day work weeks I can sort more and dip into the "stale"(6 month old) cents.

I started hand sorting one year ago today. When I started I was averaging just over 18% copper. Most of the boxes lately have been right around 17% copper. Last fall I built up a huge stash of unsorted boxes that I still haven't finished sorting. What I have been sorting lately have all been new boxes that I pick up. If things start to dry up I still have that stash of boxes that should yield about 18%.

today I Hsorted $20 in cwrs I picked up yesterday. found my 1st significant 2012s. about 6 a roll. Funny thing is two rolls were 30% with 3 wheats each and a steel in one! maybe 2012 is NOT the end of times :D

I'm just coming off of an off spell and have been sorting a bit again. So far the ratios seem to be about the same. Hopefully they will continue.

My normal percentage is 17-18%. Picked up $5 CWR at a new bank yesterday. Result was 92.55% copper!

I've been taking the Summer off from sorting but I had to go to the bank to make a deposit.
I figured it would be a good time to start stocking up on pennies so I grabbed $10 worth of CWR's.
Of course since they are around I cracked a roll and it was all 1944 wheaties. That got me going
and all $10 were 1944's and 1957's. I'll be back there tomorrow.

Excellent find there! That sure would make pennies much easier if you could just snatch up rolls of pure wheat every few months.

I was doing great until this weekend. For the first time ever all 4 boxes of memorials that were picked up were all zinc. My year to date copper % (yes I keep track in a home made spreadsheet) is 33.8% on 35 bags so far!!! Boxes from the bank are down in the mid 20s.

I have seen an increase of Canadian Cu in th epast 4-5 months as well as solid rolls of Cu. I use to get lucky a couple of times a year finding the solid rolls, but lately it has been crazy.Somebody is doing a lot of dumping Grand Pa's stash. 2 weeks ago I had $50 of solid Cu, I went back to the same bank to see if they had more of the same wrappers. I had 22 rolls of wheaties. Pushed me over a full CTU of wheaties.
