I cut open a bag of cents last night and as I was about to pour them out I noticed a bunch of wheats. So I put the bag down and grabbed a handful. TONS of wheats. Upon further inspection it looked like almost the whole bag was loaded with them. So I decided to just hand sort the whole thing. Wow, I forgot how much work hand sorting is! Lots of the older wheats that I am finding are pretty worn so it is taking extra time to inspect them with magnification. I only got half way through the bag before I decided to call it a night so I'll report better numbers later tonight when I finish. Some dumbass dumped grampa's collection.
~20% Wheats
~20% Zinc
-Many nice BU memorial coppers
-A few BU red wheats from the 50's
-LOTS of wheats from the early decades, including all mint marks.
-Best 2 so far: 1909VDB, 1922D both very worn.
-SILVER!! 1914 Netherlands 25cent
-Denver Mint "coin" from a uncirculated set.
most of the older wheats are well worn. This was not a BU collection.
YES, I already got all the other bags off the counter! There are some bags still on there however (nickels and halves) that I need to get once they are full. The dime bag had 12 silvers, which is pretty good. I may even go and just top off the nickels and halves so I can buy the bags. Never dumped there before. Hummm. Might send my wife in to fill the bags then just show up a little later and buy the bags. They don't know my wife.
