First sorting experience.

Postby captainpooby » Mon Aug 13, 2012 3:26 pm

OK, so I'm over here from bullion stackers looking around and checking the place out. Nice place you got here BTW and I'm trying to learn and pick up the lingo.

I came here maybe looking to do a little buying and selling, not so much to become a penny sorter but hey! I have a coffee can full of pennies! Who doesn't have a coffee can of pennies? So I decided last night to sort them out for copper. Took me a while but I wasn't busy anyway.

They were about 20/80% copper/zinc I'd guess, with 9 wheat pennies, 12 Canadian coppers, 8 Canadian zinc and 2 Bahamian cents. How'd I do? :?
Always look out for number one. Unless someone is throwing poop around.

The look out for number two.

20% is about average. Some areas see higher, some lower. I average 22.5%

I think most people average 20% - 25% copper, so you're right in the ballpark.

You did well. I think there's a Bahamian vacation in your future.

(I only get around 12% coppers in South Texas.)

Sounds like someone trying drugs for the first time, "I'll just try it once."
Next thing you know, you're buying rolls, raiding the take-a-penny trays, ordering boxes, buying a Ryedale...
Then one day you'll ask, "How did this happen to me?"
