I know that a few here (including myself) have read the blog and the blog hangers-on, or have in the past.

http://fofoa.blogspot.com/

I do check into it from time to time. I sympathize with some of the views, I think. I say I think because really following it would have to become a major lifestyle decision due to the time committment. They are incredibly verbose over there (more below).

In summary they are anti-fiat, and pro-Gold. That's good. They are especially "freegold" in the sense that gold should back all currency, and be allowed to rise to the value needed to back all currency. Interestingly they are anti-silver, in the sense that they don't regard silver as a real PM. In their eyes gold is money and wealth, silver is "just" a metal and neither money nor wealth. They believe "silverbugs" are crazy and irrational and that gold/silver ratio talk makes no sense. I think they are wrong there but I'm not interested in debating them - that would take time away from my conversion of fiat to silver (and gold). ;)

Furthermore, they LOVE to debate, especially to throw up strawmen and then knock them down. They don't really like real debate - anyone that would try to debate them (silverbugs, especially), they seem to consider trolls.

And they seem to love to hear themselves talk. Don't bother being focused over there. Don't write anything in 10 words when a 1000 will do. Furthermore, repeat yourself ad infinitum, especially by saying the same thing in 10 different ways, and re-quoting yourself from past entries while in the process of re-stating that same thing. I can take a little of it, but a little goes a long way.

Does anyone else think this or is it just me?

I get the impression that I've already gotten out of it everything that there is to get from it.

I've never paid much attention to the actual forum, but I do check on the blog occasionally. I think the original posts of "Another" and "Friend of Another" both explain our current system pretty clearly. FOA's explanation on how the U.S. uses the dollar's reserve status to export inflation abroard, for example, is very instructive. However, FOFOA makes fewer insights on his own and seems content on quoting the posts of his predecessors to make his points as though they are scripture. His posts are long and sometimes difficult to follow. Also the secrecy around the identities of these posters strikes me as a little melodramatic. While it might be an effective marketing ploy to drum up interest and speculation among their readers; for me, it just detracts from their credibility.

I went there in the past. Verbose, to say the least. I got bored rather quickly, but then I have the attention span of a fruitfly. Or, was that the lifespan of a fruitfly? They are wrong about silver. It's mentioned in the Bible (and not just the infamous 30 pieces). Silver for monetary purposes has been around long enough .
