Why Are People Hoarding Coins?

Postby Country » Thu Dec 13, 2012 5:21 pm

Humankind has not woven the web of life. We are but one thread within it. Whatever we do to the web, we do to ourselves. All things are bound together. All things connect. ~Chief Seattle, 1855

Thanks for posting. It's a pretty level headed piece objectively written.

Wonder if anyone is here on the site (visitor, lurker, poster) as a result of that article?

Good article. I got a good laugh at some of the comments made on that site. Some one poked fun and called us fools for what we do. Hhaha! The joke will soon be on them!

Reading the comments on these types of articles are the "best" (but most saddening) part. They illumine the state of mind of the balance of the population, and while I do see low-level growing awareness, what we see most of is the view of the brainwashed - the normalcy bias (supported by no facts) that there is nothing truly wrong.

It seemed like a really balanced article until the last paragraph. The comments seem to be about 50-50 positive. Maybe more toward the negative. Still as 68Camaro wrote it illuminates the normalcy bias among people. I see it in my girlfriends parents but, they voted for Obama TWICE.

If this author was a lurker here, she sure wasnt paying to much attention.

Small-time hoarders get their coins from their local bank tellers, whereas more serious ones buy online in bulk.

Did she miss all the folks who buy machines to sort out their copper? Id call that "serious"... A bit more serious then those who just buy pre sorted copper.

Their investments won't pay off unless the government lifts the restriction on melting currency.

some how despite having mentioned that the copper is sold online NOW, she still says this?? clearly many in the field are making money on this NOW, melt ban lifted or not.
Some simply get a rush from what they see as a subversive act.

If this type of person is here, I missed their posts.

I dont really have much in the way of copper myself. Close to 100 face... But I remember the first time I followed a link from coinflation to the old realcent. Thought it was genius, and still do.
