I would like to begin an overhaul of my coin collection because I am displeased with my current ineffectual methods of organization. To begin, the most plentiful type of numismatic coin I possess is the wheat cent (to no surprise), and I would like to get some input in regards to the organizational practices of hoarders/collectors here. I'm not sure what numismatic variables call for cardboard 2x2s, plastic rolls from coin equipment suppliers, bank coin wrappers, loose plastic bags, mint bags, etc.
What do you do for common date Wheaties? Do you separate common date Wheaties of the 40s and/or 50s from the older ones? If so, what's the cutoff date? What constitutes the use of a 2x2 or specialized roll from coin suppliers? Do you organize based on mintmarks? Are there any maintenance risks of having Wheat cents in certain organizational mediums (risks being oxidation, corrosion, coins banging up against one another, etc.)?
You don't have to answer all of the above questions, as long as you communicate your own methods of organization in a fashion that you find acceptable. Thanks to all of you.
