Wheats Galore

Postby Zig » Tue Jan 22, 2013 9:56 pm

Long time lurker. First time poster. Finally found something worthy of posting.

Picked up $100.00 of bagged cents from the bank last Saturday and found my little mother-load of wheats. I check the bags by hand at the bank to verify its not a zinc dump by someone and I pulled out a handful of wheats. I was stoked.
Most of the wheats were in the first bag but a small amount were in the second.
I did a sort with my Ryedale first then sorted the zincs by hand to make sure no wheats were missed. Then hand sorted the copper pile.

Breakdown as follows.
All Total - $24.71
1911 - $.05
1917 - $.19
1919 - $.33
1920 - $.06
1925 - $.19
1926 - $.01
1927 - $.29
1928 - $.22
1929 - $.28
1930 - $.16
1934 - $1.71
1935 - $.88
1936 - $.77
1937 - $.43
1938 - $1.11
1939 - $1.88
1940s - $11.67
1950s - $4.48

Other Odd Finds:
59D AU - 26
64 AU - 47
64D AU - 67

Thanks for having me.

Wow! :o What luck! Congrats on such a fun score.
You have some years that are more rare. Any good mint marks to go with them?

Wow, drooly!

Not a single mintmark on pre-34. I was hoping for at least 1 really good rare one, but I will take what I got.
Thanks everyone.

You should post that on the January 2013 Pre-1940 Lincoln Tracking Thread http://www.realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=10&t=20369 and you will be in the lead for the year.

In the lead... that's an understatement! I've only found 33 pre-40's after sorting $736 (almost 15 bags worth) so far this year!

NICE! That's a great little stash you got there. I've had a few myself over the years. In 2011, I hit a couple of big amounts like that in CA (including one that had 600 wheats) and between the coin club, other sales and a small stash for Hoard, I turned a nice tidy profit and filled some holes in the Wheat book. :)

Keep stacking.

I just sat here daydreaming for a minute about how much fun this must have been to sort through.

I normally grab the bags and sort later in the week. When I saw what I had I went straight home and started sorting. Then realized that I never asked if the person dumped anything else. Went back to the bank to verify I had got everything.
Which I had so went home and back to sorting.

856 pre-40's. Consider that the average is one of those per bag - or less - and you just got the equivalent of sorting about $45,000.
