HELP! What book should I be looking for?

Postby uthminsta » Thu Jan 31, 2013 1:51 pm

Back in 1999, I was coming along with a British collection I had just started the previous year. At a show for the local coin club I was part of back then, one of my dealer friends brought a book which he had recently picked up, especially for me:
COINCRAFT'S 1999 STANDARD CATALOGUE of ENGLISH & UK COINS 1066 TO DATE
http://www.amazon.com/Coincrafts-Standa ... 006&sr=8-2
I recently decided that, having used this book faithfully for over a decade, I might try to pick up a newer edition. Checked on Amazon and the last edition of this book was in 2000.

Anyone know of a good book that specializes in British coins like this one does? Preferably something in-depth, affordable, and published more recently?

I should add that I have recent enough Krause books for the last 5 or 6 centuries, but they don't have nearly the information that the Coincraft book does. Looking for anything that is all-in-one and a little more than just a price list.

I have a few, don't know if they will be as modern as you want or not though.

I take that back, looks like the only specifically British one I have is focused on the Commonwealth/Colonial coins like Sierra Leone, Bermuda, British West Africa, etc.

However, the downtown coin store in Cincinnati has a huge library I can ask what the best one is (I'd like to know too!)

That's the 2000 edition of what I have... and it's the newest I can find. I was hoping that maybe someone else besides Coincraft had made something since then.

Thanks for the idea, Joe. I looked a bit at what they offer, then looked for it in the U.S. I am thinking maybe this book, or one of the recent years' editions, might be ideal. Just wish it was cheaper. So... does anyone have access to cheap numi-books?
