1939 wheat last night, my oldest. Not worth much but probably my most valuable yet.

I haven't found anything too great in a year of sorting, my best find would probably be a 1929 wheat cent in near perfect condition. I have found a couple pounds of wheaties through this time though.

I found a 1914-D in a dealer's wheat pile for 4 cents. Was in 'Good'- was offered $150 for it.

I just found a 1930 S in VF. Nice coin, only 24m minted.

Also found a 1920, date barely legible. 310m made.

Those are my oldest (1920) and most valuable yet (the 1930 s)

A bu Unc 1930 s will fetch $25ish on ebay. Its worth about a dollar as is.
Too bad it wasnt the 1931 s...

The box these 2 were found in was pretty bunk, maybe 8 coppers per roll.

I found several pre-1880 Indians in a dealer's tray yesterday. I looked them up today and noted that the 1866 is apparently rather valuable. They were marked $1 each and after I had taken a few out, he said, "Take as many as you want for 75 cents each." Sweet deal.

Nothing major, but I have found 2 1909 VDB. Not a bad return on a 1 cent investment.

Hey, your roll you bought wasn't a bad return either of the VDBs!

Actually, I've had more valuable finds, just silver coins is all. Still, seeing the 2nd page of this thread was all about wheats, thought I'd add to it. My other find was a 1914S early last year. So, after finding this 1931D, I went straight out to E-bay and managed to snipe one that looks like it has some red left for less than 7 bucks. 1931, interesting penny year.

in just 3 months ive found a 1902 IH penny, a 1908 V nick, a 1939d nick and 2 1950d nicks. Nothing real cha ching but a healthy enough start to keep me and my 15 yr old son motivated. id have to say the 1939d and especially the 2 1950d are our best finds.

My total of 5 IH pennies. With just over 4000 dollars of pennies sorted that makes the one per $1000 average just about right!

Since this is in the copper section...a 1922 plain...it was a Ryedale reject...I dont know how long I had it, I toss these rejects in a bottle and one night I was bored and sorted that bottle and there it was.

1914-D in XF or better shape is by far my best find. I need to quit being lazy and get it slabbed!

In the last year or so of hand sorting pennies, I've found three 1999-P Wide AM's. They are all circulated, but in pretty good condition. I haven't found any reliable places to determine approximately how much they are worth. Anyone know of any good sources that discuss the approximate value of circulated 1999-P Wide AM's?

I also found a 1995 or 1996 Olympic swimming commemorative half dollar that I sold on ebay for over $100
a couple of full rolls of Ben Franklin & Walking Liberty halves one time.

I've never found any GOLD though!

I found that swiming commerative also. Very low mintage. Mine had a nice big hole in it though...

Best find over my lifetime was when I was a kid - a full horn 37-D 3 legged Buffalo Nickel. Traded it for an ounce of gold in early 2009, so it's about doubled in value since then. :D

Best find since discovering realcent? 1913-S Lincoln

Oldest find - 1863 Indian Head

Still, my favorite finds are in pocket change. Silver (which RARELY happens), wheats, or Indians (can count finds on one hand over lifetime) - those are the ones that stick with me. There's just something sweet about finding something in pocket change, much more of a memorable experience than CWR, bags, boxes or buying collections from private parties. I can still remember the last silver and last Indian found in my pocket change - the other stuff (while often times more valuable) just isn't as memorable for me...

+1

One of the coin shops I go to will occasionally give out wheats, proofs, and buffalo nickels out with the change. Even though I’ve come to expect it from time-to-time, it still makes gives me a bit of a rush when it happens.

Admittedly though, finding a roll while searching CWR that was all Buffalo and War nickels was slightly more invigorating than finding a 50's Wheat in pocket change. I've been chasing that rush ever since (like a drug). :D

My most valuable find(s) in cent rolls has been two average circulated 1900's IH.

In cent rolls - I've found a couple of IH's - neither particularly rare, but still pretty awesome, but I guess the most valuable was a 1909 VDB in VF condition. I've found bunches of 1998 and 2000 WAMS, but still no 1999's. I'll keep hoping........
