1935 S Quarter thoughts... MS6x?

Postby Chaboo » Mon Feb 11, 2013 9:56 pm

I have this little gem and am not familiar with grading quarters. It appears to be a weak strike and has the ding by the ear. Otherwise there are light marks here and there. Is anyone good at grading quarters?

You can always compare it to slabbed coins on heritage. I would offer an opinion but can't see the whole coin on m ipad

You have to touch and hold your finger on the pic. It should give you an option to view the pic. I can see the whole pic on my little phone.

Spencer,
Any luck viewing the whole pic?
I tried comparing and ended up thinking an au58 was nicer than a ms63. LOL

Thank you both for your help,
Dale

Good pic here.

The coin looks chemically cleaned though.

Argh, some people! What do I look for to confirm it's been cleaned?

It could just be the picture quality but it looks wizzed to me.

I also wouldn't say its MS.

Nope, not wizzed ... unless I missed something. What do you see that makes you say that? I'll look closer.
Thanks

I looks like the surface has a uniformly rough or etched texture

Look for cartwheel dale. That will tell u if its been cleaned. If you hold it in the light you should be able to turn it side to side and see a cartwheel affect. Check on something silver you know is good. I can't tell if its cleaned and I have not been able to see the whole pic.

It could just be the way the picture quality is....But if you look at the obverse, to the left of the eye, it looks wizzed all around there.

Nice coin. Looks original and would probably grade 63-64. The ding @ center obv, lack of luster, and the less than average strike hold this coin back.
This space for rent. :)
