I don't buy boxes of halves anymore. My town isn't the best set up for it. We are only serviced by Brinks. Also, all of the boxes of halves that I have gotten have been searched previously. However, I always ask any bank I go to (unless they are my half dump bank) if they have any halves that people brought in. Easily, those are the best pickin's right there. You never know what you'll find.

After that, I try to do a box of dimes every two weeks. I don't find much, and lately it's been two 2010 boxes back to back, but it's pretty consistent, usually. One per box is about my ratio. And I found a Barber dime once, so that keeps me coming back.

I haven't done nickels in a while. I used to do them every week, but I got burnt out. It was a very nice break from sorting pennies. But now that I have a Ryedale, the idea of manually sorting coins again just seems ... ancient. That's what so nice about dimes. They come in those clear plastic wrappers, which makes them a breeze to sort. Nickels would require me to whip out the old sorting table again and go back to work.

Quarters. Don't bother.

I hope that helps. I think the only real plan I have is to order something else whenever one denomination seems to be getting stale. That keeps some silver coming in, and the interest level high for me.

Halves, nickels, cents and the occasional dime hand rolls.

Halves and pennies; I have cut back on the nickels but still sort about a box a week

I pick up a box of dimes from time to time from banks that cannot order me halves or where I am turning in my halves.

Pennies, nickels, dimes, and halves.

I've been finding consistent silver in my nickel and dime boxes-- very low percentages, of course, (probably 1.5 silver coins per box) but consistent, so it keeps me hunting.

I did get a silver quarter the other day while working on my 50 states collection, but I don't typically don't get quarter boxes.

Halves are a mixed bag (pun)- most trips are skunks, but then there's that mini-find (like today's Silver Santa visit) that keeps you going.

The only boxes I buy are dimes...I used to buy halves in boxes and in the beginning I was finding silver left and right, but after a while it fell off a cliff. So, now I only ask for loose halves tellers have in the drawers. I actually do pretty well with that and it doesn't anger the bank employees. Most of them won't order half boxes for me anymore anyway.

Currently halves only. Averaging about 8/10's of an ounce of silver a box and since I either do it while watching tv or the two kids and I spend time doing it together I consider it a good payoff - just the talks the kids and I have while doing them are worth it to me. Believe me, it's not always easy getting a 15 year old girl to open up and really talk and when we are sorting it seems to come easier. Besides they both get a kick out of it when they find the good stuff. Of course the down side is they sometimes confiscate some the the findings for their fee - yes, they both have their own stack.

Also handsorted pennies until I broke the $1000 mark in copper. From time to time I still have the urge to pick up some more.
If you are waiting for the "correction" to buy you need to realize that the increasing prices ARE the correction.

I used to focus on halves, until the SILVER dried up. I did some dimes, the Brink's rolls were in plastic so you could edge sort easily, but the SILVER dried up there too. I never did nickels.

Right now, my sorting time is divided between COPPER and SILVER searching (halves, but I've cut back to 3 boxes a week). I still find a few SILVER halves, but at 22% COPPER from penny searches, that is my most productive bullion searching now. I put away some COPPER IN 1978-1980, 100% COPPER then all the time, but have recently been adding to the COPPER hoard again this year. Searching for the wheats is fun!!

Check out this current thread and you will see who is searching what and what they are finding.

A new tracking thread is maintained by Country for each month and I believe most of the old threads since our move to here are still available under the broad Tracking Threads Section.

Enjoy your coin searches, everyone. :geek:

Cents will always be my favorite. There is a winner in every box.. and occasionally you do find silver.. but that is a pretty elete club. Next is Half Dollars. I haven't had the big Silver Santa finds like some here.. but I did score 1 90%, 4 40% and 71 1987 halves in my last box. Dimes are next best, cause you can edge check them really quick and they do produce a few winners here and there. Nickels next.. but they are very labor intensive since you actually have to look at the dates. Quarters are last due to extremely low yields. I only do the occasional bag or 2 each week that one of my banks gives to me from the Laundramat guy and CWR's from a few of my other banks.

I only order boxes of pennies and halves. Everything else is just whatever my banks want to get rid of.

I mainly search through groats.

Having had no luck doing half boxes, I almost exclusively search dime rolls. Quick and easy to search and hassle free to dump. I will search customer rolled halves when there available, but there few and far between these days. I do pretty good with the dime though, so until the silver dries up I'll keep hitting them hard.

When searching dimes how many rolls are you going thru to get silver? American 90 percent pre 65. ?

Check my stats on the tracking thread. I usually pick-up CWR dimes 2-3 times a week, or every other day. Sometimes as low as $150 if that's all the have, but never more than $400-500 since I have to dump them at a different branch. I would say I average 1 silver dime per $100.

Interesting reports guys. Did my first box of halves and pulled out four 40%ers and a non silver proof. Beats a sharp stick in the eye or a stunk.

To the dime searchers, do you just check the rims for silver or do you eyeball each date?
