Out of 18 boxes, 1 1936, 2 1937, 2 dateless

A guy at work came back from lunch and said he noticed a buffalo in one of the tills that the store manager was counting down. He picked it up and showed it to him (the manager). The manager asked where he got it from and the guy told him from the till that was being counted down. The manager got a little upset and quickly put the till into the safe. I assume that someone putting their hand in the till and not being noticed by the manager counting it, would be a little upsetting.

I told my co-worker that I would talk to the manager and see if I could get it. 2 hours later I asked if I could give him a different nickel for it. He knows I am a coin guy and said he would sell it to me for a dollar (he was just kidding). I told him it was only worth about 6-10 cents at most (I would need a loop to see if the date was legible). We exchanged nickels and coin talk developed among 4 of us. One guy said he has a 1915 VDB penny :shh:
He is gonna bring me a picture

Anyway, I took the buff and gave it to my co-worker (we are meatcutters in a grocery store). He said that it was mine and I told him if he doesn't want it that I will take it. But, it was his find and not mine. He was pretty happy to have it. He now has a herd of one!

Congrates on the first one. Very nice find with a date to be your first one found. I usually find one about every 4 boxes or so of bank wrapped rolls. Its a rare to find a pre 60s in cwr around here.

THANK YOU! I also did find 15 more pre-'60 coins that I stashed with the others:) My local branch must think I'm a little different because I think I'm the only one buying coin from them. Hope it stays that way for some time.

I feel like all the banks think im different when i walk in. They either say" oh here come the guy with a bucket full of change, stand buy to empty bags out of the coin machine" or " here comes the guy buying 4 boxes of coins" It is what it is, if only they knew what we found...

And that's why all I tell them is "I'm making coin folders for my three kids". Which I am, but I'm also pulling the coppers out of the cents and the pre-60's out of the nickels. Soon, I will start sorting dimes and continue moving up in denomination. I set $30 aside each week for this hobby and use it to buy pennies. What zincolns I throw back is added to next week's $30, right now I'm using it for nickels. When I get upwards of a box of nickels a week, I will start with dimes. I have three children and I try to pull the better looking coins out for their folders. Now, my wife just informed me last week that a fourth is on the way. Time to invest in more folders and more time to sort and go back through. I just hope they appreciate the gift of these coins upon their high school graduation and not turn around and sell them for a few bucks:)
