I went to one of my banks today that I usually dump $50 and pick up another bag that the tellers save for me. While running the dump bag the teller brings me a penny with a confused look on her face. It is a copper penny she just took off the magnet. I look at it and it is a 1943-D copper penny alright. Wow, I say and hand her one from my pocket to replace it to even out the $50 bag.
That is when Henrysmedford & Franklin pop into my head. I say to her: “What do you do with the coins that come off the magnet?” (Quiet anticipation here).
She says: “Oh we throw them in the garbage.” (feeling like a deflated balloon here).
BUT(don’t you just love BUT(keep it out of the gutter boys)) she says: “We have a jar half full of junk from the past month” (Anticipation returns)
Then I say with all the courage that Henrysmedford & Franklin have taught me: “Can I have them”.
“Sure” she says(here is where I am JUMPING for joy)
and fills a little baggie half full of coins, which quickly get shoved into the depths of my pocket. Now the rest of the story is that when I got home I do have a very copper looking 1943-D penny but yes it does stick to a magnet. (A really good fake if I say so myself).
I also have $10.50 in Canadian quarters and dimes, a $10 peso coin, a 10 New Pence and finally
I find a 1865( yes 1865) Canadian Half Penny !
