Inflation?

Postby OtusLotus » Wed Mar 27, 2013 11:45 am

Everyone knows that prices are rising... or are they???

Came across an old can that had pennies stored in it.

The Maxwell House can on the left is from before 1990 (It was made by General Foods, which merged into Kraft Foods in 1990).
On the bottom of the can, was a sticker for $2.99!

The Maxwell House can on the right is one that I just bought ON SALE for $2.77.

Same size can! Same shape, width, height! So, who says there is inflation?

Unless, of course, you take into account that the CONTENTS of the left can were 16 oz, but the can on the right is only 10.5 oz!

I wish I could travel back in time to 1991 and sort pennies then. Only 9 years of zincs to contend with. But I'd probably do better to make some stock market investments with foresight rather than dabble in Cu cent acquisition.

1991 I would be doing halves instead of pennies! Lots and lots of halves.

That is stealth inflation. They have done that with countless products over the last few years. I should have kept track of all the stuff I noticed. Go back to sleep America. Everything is fine. See you can still get cheap consumer goods!
"If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around them will deprive the people of all property until their children wake up homeless on the continent their Fathers conquered....The issuing power should be taken from the banks and restored to the people, to whom it properly belongs."

You hit the nail on the head with a products physical size vs. the actual contents! Also notice how things used to be in Metal and Glass, now there are products served in Plasic Pouches, bags, and whatever the heck you would call "Go-Gurt" containers.

Also, am I the only one who is outraged that you didn't use the $1 off coupon in Sunday's (March 17th) newspaper?

Is the new can only 5/8 full when opened? How do they fluff the coffee so it doesn't look like you get ripped off?

The plastic indented handles on the sides remove some space, the bottom of the plastic can is concaved, etc. They find lots of ways to put in less product.

I guess I missed that coupon LooseChange!

Manufacturers have kept the same size packaging but reduced the contents in a number of everyday items!

BTW.. if I could go back to 1991.. I wouldn't buy halves or gold bars... I WOULD INVENT THE INTERNET!

I heard it a few years ago on the radio, this thread reminded me of it.
